Great food styling doesn’t just showcase flavour - it builds craving before the first bite 🌶️✨

For the final chapter of this Mirchiwallla series, the focus was on capturing food in its most indulgent, comforting, and visually irresistible form. Through rich textures, dramatic pours, layered compositions, and intentional food interactions, every frame was designed to make the spice feel bold, immersive, and almost tangible through the screen.

What makes commercial food styling powerful is the ability to transform everyday dishes into visuals that feel memorable, emotionally driven, and instantly appetite-inducing. Because people don’t just consume food visually - they respond to the mood, texture, warmth, and story created around it.

From ingredient placement to colour contrast and motion within the frame, every detail was carefully directed to create visuals that don’t just look good, they stay with you.

Bold flavours deserve bold visuals 🌶️✨

For this series with Mirchiwallla, the focus was on capturing how chilli oil transforms everyday food into something vibrant, indulgent, and full of character. From molten drizzles over pizza and grilled bites to fiery textures, rich colours, and mood-led compositions - every frame was styled to make the heat feel almost tangible.

The intention wasn’t just to showcase a product, but to build a visual story around flavour, comfort, spice, and craving. Because great food styling doesn’t simply present food - it creates an atmosphere you can almost taste through the screen.

Some flavours don’t just sit quietly on the table - they take over the entire experience 🌶️✨

For Mirchiwallla, the idea was to capture the richness, depth, and bold personality of their chilli oil through textures, colours, ingredients, and mood-driven styling. From the glossy spice drizzle to the layered tabletop details, every frame was designed to feel indulgent, fiery, and impossible to ignore.

Food styling is more than making food look beautiful - it’s about translating flavour into visuals that make you pause, crave, and remember.

This is Sandige: a sun dried food, traditionally prepared and dried at home, on terraces. Made in large quantities for families to savour throughout the year; these Sandige (as they are traditionally known in Karnataka) Add texture to everyday meals: the distinctive crunch that completes a plate.
They are more than just preserves, they are a part of a seasonal ritual of slowing down, coming together, and preparing for the months ahead. .anderson.shaffer words have given language to my thoughts and memories behind this series. ✨

A chance discovery of .anderson.shaffer dissertation piece while scrolling opened up an entirely new way of looking at my own work. I couldn’t resist borrowing her words while sharing my personal explorations of “Summer.”
She writes, “Every dish carries a lineage. This is how I was raised. This is how my family took care of each other. This is how I will take care of you.”
And perhaps that is what summer has always meant to me too, not just a season.

Recreated these memories into visuals with who was equally intrigued by the flavours of methi-papad, kakdi wadi, wadi nu kathiavadi shaak, dishes that carry so much history within them.

⁩I often find myself drawn to seemingly inane things. A certain aroma that quietly sat in the corners of memory and simply meant “summer.” It was never limited to the smell of mangoes ripening at home. When I dig deeper, summer reveals itself through countless little associations like the hum of ceiling fans through lazy afternoons, carrying the whiff of whatever was cooking in the kitchen up to my room. The subtle scent of wadi batter drying on terraces; steel tumblers sweating with baflo (aam panna), the inevitable fights over who got to eat the bits of khichu that never made it to becoming papads and the feel of crackling Khichya papad when one picks them up before the sun sets.
So much of summer lived in these fleeting sights, smells, and sounds — ordinary at the time, yet unforgettable now.

Every home had its own version of summer ☀️

Old sarees spread across terraces with cut mangoes drying in the sun, steel glasses filled with homemade sherbet after playtime, fruits wrapped in newspaper sheets to ripen slowly, and kitchens fragrant with spices roasting for pickles and preserves.

Summer felt slower than simple, seasonal and filled with small rituals that brought everyone together. Maybe that’s why the memories still feel so vivid: the smell of raw mangoes, sticky fingers, hand-pounded ice and the quiet comfort of food prepared with so much love. 🥭✨
