There’s a lot that happens before the camera starts rolling.

For this Milkmaid Onam shoot, I was involved right from the early stages - working through the recipes, thinking about how the food should come together, finding the right props, colours and clothing, and making sure every detail felt connected to the occasion.

It’s the kind of preparation that may not always be visible in the final frame, but makes a huge difference to how the story comes together.

Before the final edit comes together, there’s a process and a prep that a food director goes through. Every ingredient is carefully studied, every texture is thoughtfully enhanced, and every element is intentionally placed to create a shot that feels natural, effortless, and full of life.

This is the craft that has earned the trust of the country’s most renowned food brands.

The final shot may look effortless, almost magical. But the magic is never by chance. It’s the result of years of experience, countless creative decisions, and a deep understanding of food, light, texture, and composition.

While the world celebrates Friendship Day, for me it’s always been about the little moments we share.
A cup of masala-lemongrass chai made just the way she likes it. Sitting on the old swing at my parents’ home, letting time slow down as conversations wander from college time memories to where life has brought us.

No grand plans. No special occasion. Just the comfort of being with someone who has seen many versions of you.

These are the moments that quietly fill your heart, making even the dullest day feel lighter.

That’s what friendship feels like to me.

Making a bed of natural ingredients for a product formulation can seem like the easiest visual solution. Especially when you see these images blown up on outdoor media. They’re instantly recognisable and the recall is undeniable.

But creating them is anything but a bed of roses.

Every detail matters. The proportion of the aloe vera to the shikakai pods. The natural curve of each aloe leaf. And perhaps the biggest challenge of all; finding fresh rosemary with delicate flowers.

The final visual may look effortless, but it’s built on hours of sourcing, styling, precision, and patience. That’s the beauty of food and ingredient styling, the craft often disappears, leaving only the illusion of simplicity.

When food gets paired with talent every bite, every expression, every interaction has to feel natural enough for people to believe it.

Because in advertising, you’re not just styling a burger or a slice of pizza. You’re styling the experience of enjoying it.

That’s one of the things I enjoy most about commercial shoots.

What I enjoy just as much is everything that happens before it - the conversations, the experimentation, the constant tweaking, and those quiet moments when a simple adjustment suddenly makes everything fall into place.

As we wrap up this Ice Cream Day series, here’s a little glimpse behind one of my favourite ice cream shoots.
