Been planning on since I moved to Bangalore but never really got an opportunity to go. Took 74th birthday as a reason to spend an afternoon there - slow lunch, no crowds kind of celebration.
What we had:
Armenian Kebab
Greek pies (V)
Fried Chicken
Wild mushroom risotto (V)
Trout Muziris (to make up for the Biennale we missed)
Beers
Rocky road Gelato

I said it was to celebrate my mum’s birthday when I booked - but no special treatment or service. So that was a bit of a bummer but the service was decent. I bet mumbai restaurants would have paid a wee bit more attention to detail. But ok we are in Bangalore, I continue to keep expectations pretty low.

Ambience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Food: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

Do I recommend it? Worth a visit for sure.

Can’t get over . We might have tried everything on the menu so far but we go there anyway because of greenery, the cool ambience, welcoming staff and the number of dogs who come there. The food always has been impeccable, service is always exemplary. No wonder it is one the top bars in Bengaluru - I can vouch for it because I had the same amazing experience in the evening as well when I went there for drinks. I can’t recommend this restaurant and bar more.

In a traditional home in Mangalore you would least expect to find some really good matcha. But surprised us with some really good food in a warm traditional setting which took us right back to our home that our grandparents build. Complete with high ceilings and Mangalore tiles, old furniture and some vintage paintings, this place would be ideal do anyone who wants to sip a cool drink and read a book like I did (note : please read tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow and thank me) or to catch up on some work in a non corporate setting, in a very home like setting instead. Don’t expect super fast delivery of food and drink because the vibe is very relaxed but go for the very same thing - a deliberate way to slow down from the bustle of a busy day. We spent about an hour and half just reading and sipping on our drink and eating some small eats. I would go there again to get some writing done. It might look even more amazing during the rains.

We spent the afternoon on Saturday tasting and talking about our traditions from Mangalore while experiencing an incredible meal at . Set in a quaint home in Cambridge street we were delighted by the flavours from Mangalore and Gowda cuisines- some which we knew cos we are Mangalorean - others which we loved because the flavours were similar to those we knew. My favourites were of course the Sanna (which hit as close to homemade as possible) paired with prawn curry and hitinkinbele saaru which was new and my favourite new flavour. The Gowdru Mamsa Pulao made with Bannur mutton was truly a star but being a fish eater I was just enamoured by the way the pomfret was prepared. Reminded me of how it was made by this really small yet popular restaurant in Bunder Mangalore called Narayana - that served such lovely fried fish to its patrons. The palyas (vegetables) were delicious too, as was the majjige (buttermilk) and the payasa (sweet dish). But my favourite part of the meal was that you could eat with abandon or worry of feeling too full (no added soda kind of full iykyk), with Sheen encouraging you to eat more fish and with Divya offering to pack food that you weren’t able to finish and also with the full knowledge that you could come back home to a well earned, happy siesta. I would easily rate it as one of my favourite (non) restaurant experiences. If you ever get an opportunity to go here, please make sure you pencil this in your schedule of things to do in Bengaluru.

Café Amudham‘s service might be super slow but their eats are just amazing and especially when they are after a badminton game, it’s even more delightful. Glad to have Madhavi play with me on the first Saturday of the year. Hope to set up a routine. Anyone wants to join us for badminton and breakfast?

Obsessed by the egg sando and the egg salad I had to make it at home. Not my first attempt but this was amazing considering Muro tickled my taste buds quite recently and they had the green onion for garnish. I tried this with the humble spring onion which is close in crunch but not quite in taste. Here is the recipe which I did without the Kewpie mayo but with Hellmans‘ but if you get Kewpie mayo it’s as close as it gets to the real thing.

Soft to medium boiled eggs. Remove the yolks mash them and add salt, pepper, tobasco and mayo. Mix well. Add boiled potato and green onions or spring onions. Mix again. Slather on slices of bread and eat up. Takes you straight to Japan. 🇯🇵

I have never gone to a restaurant who charges a steep entry fee but then here we are. We paid 500 per pax and went to despite booking on and were told by a very uptight waiting staff that we charge a 10% service charge. To which I asked what if I don’t like the service, he made it seem as though it was compulsory. Almost as though they put these barriers to ensure people don’t come there and then don’t return 😆 Bangalore customer service at its finest. Now I can’t even leave cos they have my money already. If it wasn’t for the wonderful karaoke singing, and the good service (really prompt service- not by the uptight staff but others) I would have probably left the place pretty sore.
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 7/10
Food: 8/10
Karaoke: 10/10
you need to call out the hidden charges like does.
Will I go again to this restaurant? If I am feeling rich and if I don’t want to be served well; I might.

A flavor of Bombay in Bangalore today and lots of Parsi food for lunch after a visit to the salon. Then walking through Lavelle Road, Church Street and Higginbothams on MG road. Things we will miss when we go back home.
