Some BYOS builds are all about the crunch!
This one brings crispy falafel, fresh salad, pickled onions and creamy Dr. Oetker FunFoods Olive Oil Mayonnaise layer tucked into warm pita 🥙
Ingredients:
For falafel:
🧆 2 cups chickpeas, soaked overnight
🧅 ¼ cup chopped onion
🧄 7–8 garlic cloves
🌿 ¼ cup fresh parsley leaves
🌿 ¾ cup fresh cilantro leaves
🥄 1 tsp baking powder
🥄 1 tbsp cumin powder
🥄 1 tbsp ground coriander
⚫ 1½ tsp black pepper powder
🧂 Salt to taste
🥄 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
✨Oil for frying
For assembly:
🥙 Pita bread
🥬 Lettuce
🥗 Green salad
🥄 Dr. Oetker FunFoods Olive Oil Mayonnaise
🧅 Pickled onions
Directions:
- Soak the chickpeas overnight and drain them well
- In a food processor, add chickpeas, chopped onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin powder and ground coriander
- Mix till finely minced, but not fully puréed
- Transfer the mixture to a bowl
- Add salt, black pepper powder, baking powder and toasted sesame seeds
- Mix well
- Scoop small portions and shape them into falafel balls
- Heat oil and fry the falafels till dark golden-brown and crisp
- Warm the pita on medium heat
- Slice it open to make a pocket
- Spread Dr. Oetker FunFoods Olive Oil Mayonnaise inside the pita
- Add lettuce and green salad
- Add the crispy falafels
- Top with more salad, another mayo layer and pickled onions
- Serve immediately with salad on the side
