The Palam is an initiative to introduce the tea connoisseurs of our country to the refreshing, earthy taste of the most premium quality organic green tea of the Kangra valley in Himachal Pradesh. Tea grown in the valleys of Kangra has been historically renowned. It was introduced in the valley in mid-nineteenth century, and by the 1880s, the Kangra tea was considered superior to tea from other pla
ces. In 1886 and 1895, the Kangra tea received gold and silver medals at International conventions held in London and Amsterdam. However, an earthquake in 1905 dealt a major blow to the tea plantations and business in this region. After a long lull, tea production in the region is being revived through R&D by national and state level organisations and institutes. The Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University is one of the pioneers of this research. We, the Palam team, have joined hands with the acclaimed University to bring the result of this dedicated research, the Palam’s Organic Green Tea, to the doorstep of every tea-lover in the country. Our tea ensures that tea lovers get to experience the unique flavours of the organically produced, untempered, export-quality, green tea from Kangra valley. Our flagship product encompasses the ideals of sustainable living and organic production which we, the founders of The Palam, hold close to our hearts. One of us, Anubhav – the driving force behind this initiative- was born and raised in Palampur, a village in Himachal Pradesh, in a family which has adopted sustainable, organic practices as a way of life. From using farm-fresh, organically produced food items from their own gardens to harnessing solar energy for cooking and rearing their own cows, the family has been living in sync with nature for years now. And that is what drew Anubhav, who had forayed into the merchant navy in the early years of his career, back home to re-strike the chord with nature and organic practices. However, I, Aranya, the other half of the The Palam team, had an upbringing in one of the urban, chaotic, polluted cities of India. Fortunately, my parents were addicted to the mountains and nature, and successfully passed on the infliction to me. So, when Anubhav and I met in college, it was natural for us to bond over our common love for the mountains. Through the course of our three-year long friendship in college, we discussed and shared ideas on preservation of the ecosystem and sustainable development. And somewhere along the way, on a visit to Palampur, Anubhav and I decided to work together on a venture that would promote a holistic, sustainable lifestyle. Years later, over innumerable cups of tea, we found that one cup of tea that would not only embody our ideals but also give us a chance to tweak traditional trade trends by bringing an export-quality product to cater exclusively to the home-market. We, at The Palam’s, invite you to join us in exploring the joys of an organic life.
