IFFCO, together with Telecom major Bharti Airtel and Star Mobitel, has promoted IFFCO KISAN SANCHAR LTD (IKSL). The Telecom products of Airtel are made available to farmers and people living in villages. The same SIM Card which is used for communicatio
n, is turned into a powerhouse of knowledge for empowering people living in villages through relevant & pertinent information which is being provided by IKSL through Value Added Service (VAS). The Company achieved a Profit after tax of Rs. 4.12 Crore for the year 2010-11. IKSL received the "Coffey International Award" for "Example of Excellence" for its mPower: a unique mobile service empowering farmers through timely information delivery. This is an award to an organization for demonstrating a positive impact against one or more of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. This award is instituted by the Business in the Community (BITC), an organization based in UK, focused on promoting responsible business practice. SKOCH Digital Inclusion Awards 2011, for the category “Value Added Services”, was conferred on IKSL for its initiative, “Farmers Empowerment through Mobile Phones” at the SKOCH Digital Inclusion Day, organised on 1st September, 2011 at New Delhi. SKOCH Awards are based on nominations received from Corporate, Government, Civil Society and Financial Service sectors for various categories of SKOCH Digital Inclusion Awards, 2011 that salute exemplary use of technology to serve the country.
