Farmers from Uttar Pradesh visited MM Hatcheries for an informative and enriching exposure tour, where MM Hatcheries Director Mandal was present on the occasion. During the visit, the farmers were sensitized to the importance of adopting genetically improved seeds, which play a crucial role in achieving higher yields and better resistance to diseases.
They were also guided on maintaining quality production standards at every stage of farming, from seed collection to harvesting, ensuring better market value and sustainability. In addition, practical farming tips and modern agricultural practices were shared to help them improve efficiency, reduce input costs, and enhance overall productivity.

The visit served as a valuable learning experience, empowering farmers with knowledge and techniques to strengthen their farming practices and livelihoods.

Thrilled to contribute to the technical session at the India Tilapia Summit 2026.

Proud to see Chhattisgarh leading the way in tilapia production, and among 50+ hatcheries, MM Hatcheries continues to be recognized as one of the leading hatcheries for producing premium-quality tilapia seed for the aquaculture sector.

The session featured insightful discussions on genetics advancements, cage culture, biofloc and aquaponics systems, along with opportunities in value-added tilapia products. Farmers and consultants from various states shared valuable field experiences and success stories, highlighting the importance of quality seed, innovative farming technologies, and stronger market linkages to unlock the full potential of India’s tilapia industry.

Farmers from Nagpur along with officials from the Maharashtra Fisheries Department visited MM Hatcheries, Phase II – Rampur to explore modern hatchery practices and seed production.
The team got a close look at the advanced facilities and scientific methods used for producing genetically-improved high-quality Tilapia seeds.

MM Hatcheries Director Mr. Deepankar Mandal was present during the visit, personally guiding the group and sharing insights on Tilapia genetics, seeds quality, and efficient aquaculture practices.

The visit turned into an engaging interaction where farmers learned about new technologies and better farming approaches.
Such visits help build stronger connections between farmers, experts, and institutions—moving Indian aquaculture forward together.

Fish Seed Stocking and Rearing – SOP

1) Dry the Pond Completely
Before stocking, dry the pond properly to remove unwanted fish, insects, and harmful organisms.

2) Install Protective Netting
Use frog, bird, and snake netting around the pond to prevent seed loss and protect the fish.

3) Apply Lime
Apply 70 kg lime per acre to disinfect the pond and maintain proper water quality.

4) Fill the Pond with Water
On the second day after liming, fill the pond with water.
Keep the initial water level at 3–4 feet.

5) Apply Probiotics and Fertilizers
Use probiotics from a trusted company.
Add 30 kg mustard cake (sarson khali) per acre and 5 kg DAP per acre to promote natural feed.

6) Stock Fish Seeds
After 1–2 days, stock the pond with 35,000–40,000 fish seeds per acre.

7) Feeding Management
Provide demand feeding 4 times a day.
With proper feeding, the seeds can reach 30–40 grams within 1 to 1.5 months.

8) Transfer to Rearing Pond
Once the fish reach around 50 grams, transfer them to a rearing pond at a stocking density of about 7,000 seeds per acre.

9) Use Aerators if Needed
Install aerators if stocking density is higher than 7,000 seeds per acre to maintain proper oxygen levels.

10) Water Quality Management
Apply probiotics twice a week and zeolite every 10 days (15 kg per acre) to maintain good water quality.

Once the fish reach 50 grams, follow the recommended feed chart provided by the feed company for proper growth.

This SOP helps ensure better survival, faster growth, and healthier fish production.
