The North East Store

The North East Store An Online Store for original produce from NorthEast India- unique foods, traditional weaves & handicraft And miss it when they are away.

The North East Store was born of a simple fact: People love where they are from. We are a group of people from the North East of India who, through the course of our lives, have lived outside of the North East and missed Home and all its comforts. We found many others in the same predicament. For too long we made do with bringing back foodstuffs and other unique items back from our too few and far

between holidays. Unfortunately, as much as we could carry, it was never enough. And when airlines rationed our check in luggage weight to 15kgs that was the last straw! So we thought... Hey, if you can't go Home, how about getting Home to you? Our store is an attempt to make you feel better by doing exactly that, bringing Home to you. The North East Store carries a selection of food items unique to the North East as well as Handloom and Handicrafts of the states of the region. We strive to showcase as many hard to come by products for people not native to the region to discover, learn about and enjoy. We at The North East Store source our products from local farmers & producers and NGOs, Government groups & Self Help Groups supporting local farmers, weavers and producers. All products are locally sourced, helping not only users find these products outside of the North East but also to expand the local nature of these products and get them out to a wider market not bound by physical markets.

We keep getting asked “how to cook smoked pork”, so for those of you who would like to know, please swipe ➡️

Traditional northeast recipes cook smoked pork paired with northeastern ingredients like bamboo shoot, fermented soyabeans, dry king chilli

Traditional recipes usually boil the smoked pork with other ingredients for flavour till the gravy thickens full of flavour

Simple stir fries are easiest- tip here is to never add oil to your pan/wok, simply extract oils from the fat pieces of the smoked pork to fry the meat pieces and veggies of choice.

Smoked pork is versatile enough to be added to pastas and noodles - 🍜 🍝 it’s so delicious and works equally well if your gravy base is cream or soya sauce!

And of course, the favourite fried rice, toss in smoked pork cubes along with whatever you’re adding to the fried rice! 🍚

Just three ingredients to rustle up something delicous. We keep getting asked how to make smoke pork, well this one is simple and easy!

Ingredients needed:

- smoked pork, chopped into bit sized cubes 200 grams
- garlic, sliced thinly (as much as you like), we used hald the pods of a garlic here
- mustard leaves (or bokchoy) one bunch, roughly chopped, bigger slices of leaves are good

How to make:
- Heat a pan and add the fat pieces of the smoked pork to extract oils/lard
- Once there is enough oils, add in the meat pieces as well and stir-fry till the meat is mostly cooked
- Add in the garlic slices and saute till the garlic is golden
- Add in the mustard leaves and salt to taste, and stir-fry till the leaves soften (about 5-7 mins)

And Done, Enjoy with a plate of steaming rice😃
