In the villages of Surat and Tapi, a simple idea is bringing a big change.

With the support of Sumul Dairy, rural families are installing gobar gas (biogas) plants at home and turning cattle dung into clean cooking fuel. What was once a daily struggle—collecting firewood or spending on LPG—is now becoming easier, cleaner, and more affordable.

Impact So Far:

• 6,543 biogas plants installed across rural households
• Around 327 MT dung utilized daily
• Nearly 654 MT organic fertilizer produced every day
• About 40 million kg of greenhouse gas emissions reduced
annually
• Around 39,000 LPG cylinders saved every year

Beyond these numbers, the initiative is improving health, saving time for women, and strengthening rural livelihoods through sustainable practices.

Sumul Dairy is now planning to install 10,000 additional biogas plants, further expanding this impact.

We sincerely acknowledge the support of National Dairy Development Board, Amul, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India and the the GOBAR-Dhan Initiative under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR for their continued guidance and support in making this initiative successful.
