As a kid, we went on a ton of road trips in our summer holidays and one thing common in all of them was our usual pit stop at one of the many Neera Vikri Kendra outlets on highways. My mom and sister would guzzle down this sweet translucent drink and I never liked the taste! So it's an irony that the first ever story idea that came to my mind for Condé Nast India was Neera. I want to thank for encouraging and mentoring me throughout the process. I have a lot to learn and this is just the beginning of the fruitful journey that I've embarked upon.

Happy Earth day to all! I have always thought of us and our planet as a miracle. So let's protect it shall we?

Come to think of it, protecting our planet and moving towards a sustainable future isn't all that hard. It's a choice and eventually a habit that one has to inculcate. Our mothers have been doing it since aeons. It might be hard to believe but these precious women are unknowingly one of the eco-friendliest people on earth. Their little "nuskas" could actually teach us a thing or two about sustainability. Here are some of the examples.

1. Every cloth has the potential to do great 'Safai': Fashion and the clothing industry is the second largest polluter in the world. So the next time you see an old shirt of yours used as a 'pocha' be grateful that it isn't in a landfill.

2. Why throw away future storage containers?: Ever seen a box of cookies and found sewing material inside it or a jar of honey used to store salt? This habit of reusing containers especially plastic ones is one of the easiest sustainable practices one can incorporate into our lives.

3. Water to go: Carrying our own bottle water can also create a huge difference on our planet. Every time you buy a plastic water bottle, you contribute to the increasing level of plastic waste and the hazardous microplastic particles that come along with it.

4. Sew me a saree bag: My grandmother had these colourful cloth bags that she would take to the market, and it always fascinated me as to where she got them? Turns out she stiched old dupattas and sarees into these sustainable bags. What an incredible idea!

5. Make-shift notebooks: Do you know how much paper we waste when we just throw away old notebooks even when they have some pages left? My mother saves these pages and makes small notepads to make grocery lists!

I could go on and on! What are some sustainable habits that you practice at home? Comment down below and let me know!

I’ve always associated summer with two things, the melodious sound of the koel bird and the sour taste of raw mango. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the sweetness of the ripe fruit as well, but I have an affinity towards sour tasting foods. The tangy flavor that bursts in your mouth, that makes you scrunch your face, I love it! We had a big mango tree in the backyard of our society, and each year there used to be an unspoken competition between us kids, on who collects the most fallen raw mangoes. Me and my sister were always on the lookout and one such year we managed to gather 3 ‘kairies’ (raw mangoes)! That was the best year! Then mom used to cut the fruit in wedges and sprinkle it with red chilli powder and salt and we used to devour them with much gusto! I have many fond memories revolving around raw mango and the joy that it brings along.

Happy Gudi Padwa to each and everyone!!!

Have you ever wondered the reason behind many of our rituals and or traditions? They are quite interesting and you might just learn something new.

So everyone knows that Gudi Padwa marks as the first day of the marathi new year and is celebrated widely among most homes in Maharashtra.
So there is a tradition, after all the rituals one is supposed to eat just a bite of neem leaves along with something sweet (sugar crystals/ jaggery). We did this every year at home and I never once asked or wondered why we did it. When I was around 14 or 15 I called my grandmother to wish her on the occasion and I asked her about this and it's stuck with me till today.

She told me that the neem leaves signify all the struggles, pain and bitter moments of life and the sugar signifies the joy and happiness life gives us and that we cannot appreciate the good days without the bad days. This teaches us that life is both bitter and sweet and we are supposed to embrace both equally as we begin this new year and the challenges and joys that it will bring with it. Such a beautiful tradition don't you think?

All you need to know about the Velas Turtle Festival!

Velas is a coastal village in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. It serves as a nesting site for the Olive Ridley species of marine turtles. This species sits in the "vulnerable" category of the IUCN red list.

Witness the hatching of these baby turtles as they take the first steps of their life towards sea to start a long journey full of challenges. Only one out of the many babies that make it to ocean survives to adulthood.

Every year The Velas Turtle Festival is organised in the month of March by 'The Sahaydri Nisarga Mitra' (SNM) NGO along with the village for creating awareness and encouraging eco tourism.

How to get there-
By road: State transport buses or even private ones can drop you till Dapoli or Mandangad. You'll have to figure out a local transport from there.

By rail: The nearest railway station is Chiplun. You can hire a private vehicle from there.

We all love a good story, don't we? Be it depicted through words, pictures, or video... a good story can impact people. I have taken up the Storytelling for Impact: Video course by and As part of my first assignment I have to introduce myself in seven sentences with the help of the given prompts. So this is my submission. I'm open to any suggestions and constructive criticism. Please do give it a read.

THE PROMPTS!

✅Once upon a time there was … (describe who, when, and where)

✅And every day ... (provide a picture of life before the change, event, or challenge)

✅Until one day … (describe an event or change that created a challenge)

✅And because of this ... (describe how the event changed your situation)

✅And because of that ... (describe how you reacted to the situation, attempted to solve the problem)

✅Until finally … (describe how you settled or solved the problem)

✅And ever since that day … (describe how you and your life has changed and how others have been impacted)

Once upon a time, there was a girl loved who wanted to become a Chef and she also loved telling stories about food and travel and wished to travel the world one day. So she enrolled in a Culinary School and worked very hard, she even created a blog site where she would write her heart out. Her plan was to work as a Chef for a few years and pursue the field of food media after that. She graduated with flying colors and started working at a restaurant in Bangalore.

And every day she went to work and gave her best! She absolutely loved food and she was gradually learning new techniques and getting better each day.

Until one day, She had an epiphany. She realized that she enjoyed cooking but not as much as writing or documenting food, exploring new places. She felt alive every second when she was exploring something new, writing about it, and taking photos and videos of the same! The passion that she had for creating stories outweighed her passion for cooking.
