KONKAN DIARIES — Konkan Rains. The Monsoon Has Arrived. Grand and Unhurried.

The arrived in .
Late. But grand. Exactly like Konkan.

Our co-founder Shridhar S. Phatak was at home in Malvan when the first real clouds came in. The cuckoo called first. Before any weather app — the trees knew.

A thought struck. Why just watch from the window? They headed to .

Enroute, a pause at . The Sea, rough and magnificent. That particular darkness on the horizon — the kind that isn't night, isn't storm, but is unmistakably rain.
The clouds weren't threatening. They were announcing.
Konkan was about to breathe again.

For a mango farmer, the monsoon is not a weather event. It is the reset button.

Season 2026 was hard. Documented crop losses of 85–90% in Devgad. Flowering failure. Soil that gave everything it had and asked for nothing back. The farmers at ShivKonkan Farmer Producer Company — 200+ families across Sindhudurg — they lived that.

And now the same soil that carried so much disappointment this season is drinking.

Further along the Mumbai-Goa highway, the fields had come alive. Farmers knee-deep in soft mud, guiding the plough, pressing rice seedlings into the earth. No fanfare. No pause. Just the ancient, unhurried rhythm of people who understand that the land has its own timeline — and yours is secondary.

The rice fields were silver with rain.
Konkan was beginning again.

The GI-Tagged Devgad Alphonso Mango that our buyers in , , , , receive — it doesn't grow in a vacuum. It grows here. In this soil. Watered by this rain. Tended by these hands.

This rain is part of that story.

The monsoon was late. But its entrance? Grand!

Exactly like Konkan. Never on your schedule. Always worth the wait.

"The mango is the hero. But Konkan is the universe."

What's happened with 99% of importers is now happening locally — on the Mumbai-Goa highway, in , itself.

For years, we have documented in overseas markets. Non-GI mangoes from outside the belt — packed, labelled, and shipped as "Alphonso." Real Devgad Alphonso costs nearly double Kesar at farm gate.
Add , -sanitary treatment, cold chain, import duty, and distributor margin — and there is a price floor below which genuine GI-Tagged Alphonso cannot exist in any overseas market. When importers sold both at the same price, that price was the confession.

Ninety-nine percent of what was sold as "Alphonso" abroad was never Alphonso.

We said it then. Few listened.

Now it is happening at the source. In itself. Sold to families returning from .

Non-Konkan mangoes. Standard "Devgad Hapus" boxes. And the giveaway? Newspaper from a neighbouring state used as inner packing material. Not even careful about hiding the tracks. A local expert sees it in seconds — but a family buying 3 boxes of "holiday Hapus" has no way of knowing.

If this is happening at the very origin — in Devgad — imagine what reaches an importer in , a grocer in , or a distributor in under the label "Alphonso."

This is not a rogue vendor problem. This is a systemic erosion of a GI-protected heritage produce.

GI without traceability is a stamp on paper.

The structural answer is technology — farm-level registration, GPS-mapped orchards, GI-compliant documentation, and end-to-end traceability through platforms like GoldChain. Every box must be to the farm it came from before it earns the right to carry the Alphonso name. That infrastructure exists today. It needs to become the industry standard, not the exception.

But technology cannot work alone. Every importer, retailer, and consumer has a role. If the price is suspiciously low — question it. If provenance cannot be documented beyond the packhouse — that is a red flag, not a bargain. The simplest act of due diligence is demanding proof of origin before any transaction.

The genuine Konkan farmer deserves the Alphonso price. The consumer deserves the Alphonso fruit. Neither gets either when verification is treated as optional.

KONKAN DIARIES — . Made in a Wadee. Under the .

Every summer in , before the monsoon arrives, something special happens in the wadees — the small clusters of homes in Konkan villages where families live side by side.

Women of every generation gather at one home. Grandmothers who have done this for sixty years. Young girls learning for the first time. Aunts with strong opinions about whose spice blend is better.

On the floor — spread across newspaper sheets — are kilograms of deep crimson Bedgi red chillies. Dried. Fragrant. Intense. Stems are removed one by one, by hand. Whole spices are added — proportions held in memory, never written down. Everything is sent to the local crusher.

What comes back is Malvani Masala. The real one. The backbone of a Malvani curry, a curry, a rice plate that every Maharashtrian food lover has strong feelings about. A full year's supply. Made in one afternoon. Together.

The same Konkan sun that ripens our -Tagged on the tree is the engine behind this ritual too. The window is narrow — just four to six weeks of summer. You cannot do this in monsoon. You cannot do this in winter.

So when summer comes, Konkan women move.

This is the Konkan our co-founder Shridhar S. Phatak captures in

— where the mango is the hero, but Konkan is the universe.

For months, we watched in silence.

85% to 90% crop losses in . Farmers who have given their lives to the -Tagged — losing an entire season. Local media was quiet. The government gave assurances that rang hollow for families staring at empty orchards.

We at Shreevali Agro®, together with our farmers at ShivKonkan Farmer Producer Company, kept speaking up. We kept saying — this is not a small setback. This is a crisis that the world needs to hear about.

Yesterday, Reuters heard us.

One of the world's most trusted agencies — reporting for over 170 years — published a ground report from Devgad. They covered it all.

The . The . The . The box manufacturers. The full supply chain that carries the story of Konkan to dining tables across the world.

Our farmers' voices are now part of a global conversation.

We are relieved. Not celebrated. Relieved.

The GI-Tagged Devgad Alphonso is not just a fruit. It is a , a heritage, and the livelihood of thousands of farming families in . It deserves to be heard.

Yesterday, it was.

We will keep speaking. For the farmer. From the farm.

In India's western state of Maharashtra, mango farmer Komal Walke is scrambling to meet orders from India's online grocers ‌after her family's three acres of orchards produced almost no Alphonso mangoes this year.

The IPL has the stadiums. Konkan has the rice fields. 🏏🌾

With mango season winding down, our founder Shridhar found himself with something rare — a few unscheduled hours near his wife's home in Malvan. What he stumbled onto was a full two-innings cricket match between farmer kids and chakarmani kids — children of Konkan families who return every summer from Mumbai to reconnect with their roots.

No boundary ropes. No scoreboard. A run-out so disputed it had to be settled by reviewing phone footage. And one universally understood law that every Indian child enforces without fail — bowling fast to small kids is cheating. ⚖️😄

The IPL crossed ₹15,000 crore in valuation this season. But what these children found on that rice field — that particular joy, that particular freedom — money cannot manufacture.

The orchards are resting. The children are playing. The cuckoo is singing.

This is Konkan. This is what the mango grows next to.

"The mango is the hero. But Konkan is the universe."

Shreevali Agro® Alphonso Mango Season 2026 — War, Fake Fruit, and a Season We Delivered Anyway!🥭

is a wrap — and we're sharing the full, honest picture. Not just the wins.

17 destinations served across the USA, UAE, Qatar, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Mauritius, Canada, Europe and more. 15 markets where we came close but couldn't close — for reasons that are bigger than any one exporter.

Here's what happened 👇
🌾 GI-Tagged Devgad Alphonso had a lower-yield season. Less fruit means higher farm prices. That's not a problem — that's the reality of growing something authentic.

✈️ Global conflict sent air freight costs surging. Our sea freight route to the GCC via Jebel Ali became economically unviable. Real costs, real impact on real exporters.

⚠️ And then there's the harder conversation — non-GI-tagged mangoes being sold as Alphonso in international markets. No verified origin. No traceability. Lower price. The importer didn't always know. The end consumer paid premium for something else entirely.

Our farmers at ShivKonkan Farmer Producer Company grew exceptional fruit this season. They deserve better than to compete with fruit that isn't what it claims to be.

To every buyer who chose authentic GI-Tagged Devgad Alphonso this season — thank you. You know the difference.

17,700 people from 50+ countries visited our website this season. The demand is real. The market is growing.

Same farmers. Same Konkan belt. Same GoldChain from orchard to destination. We'll be back — Season 2027!!

Co-founder Yashrraj Phatak sent these photos from his family's ancestral home in Konkan — and we haven't stopped thinking about them since.

This is Wadwal.

A Malvani community tradition where families gather to offer a feast to the good spirits and ancestors who protect their home and land.

Cooked on open wood fires. Served on Patravali leaf plates. Eaten sitting on the ground together — chicken, mutton, vade, solkadhi, bhaat.

No fancy hall. No printed invitations. Just fire, food, and community.

What makes it extraordinary: on the same night, across multiple villages, Wadwal happens simultaneously in different homes. No coordination — just a living tradition that pulses through Konkan quietly, faithfully, every season.

As the mango season winds down and the trees rest, this is how Konkan closes its chapter — not with a ledger, but with a feast.

Friends, something historic happened yesterday in Mumbai.

For the first time in 50 years, — the very people who grow the -Tagged you love — took to the streets. They marched. They were detained before they could even speak.

Their demand is simple: fair compensation for a season destroyed by unseasonal rains and climate damage.

The government announced ₹22,000 per hectare.
> ₹220 per Mango Tree maintenance for entire year
> $2.3 per Mango Tree maintenance for entire year
> €1.9 per Mango Tree maintenance for entire year

The farmers are asking for ₹5 lakh per hectare. The difference tells you everything about how this government values the Konkan orchard farmer.

Since March 2026, they have protested on highways, at district offices, in legislative sessions. Assurances were given. No concrete relief came.

Watch this important video and share widely. These voices deserve to be heard.

Every evening at 4:30 PM, at road junctions across Konkan, the Vada-Pav Tapree opens. 🌅

No signboard. No menu. It runs until the fresh ingredients last — not a minute beyond.

One woman at the wood-fired stove. Another managing the crowd — orders, plates, coins, all in the same breath. Konkan, where women's entrepreneurship does not announce itself. It simply feeds everyone.

Farmers, farm-labourers, packhouse teams — a couple of team members walk over and carry back for the rest, who are still unloading or freshening up after a full day's work.

Our founder Shridhar S. Phatak and co-founder Yashrraj Phatak were at this junction outside Devgad last evening.

Tourists on NH-66 slow down in confusion at the crowd. Locals know exactly why.

The food tastes like it was made for people who actually worked today. 🤲
