வானவியல் கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள் SKCRF வளாகத்தில் உள்ள பாரம்பரிய மரங்களின் பல்லுயிர் பெருக்கத்தை ஆய்வு செய்து ஆவணப்படுத்தினர்
திருப்பூர் மாவட்டம், காங்கயம் வட்டம், குட்டப்பாளையத்தில் உள்ள சேனாபதி காங்கயம் கால்நடை ஆராய்ச்சி அறக்கட்டளை (SKCRF) வளாகத்தில், சமீபத்தில் அறிவியல் பூர்வமாக மரங்கள் ஆவணம் செய்து, பல்லுயிர் பெருக்கத்தை மதிப்பீட்டு செய்ய திட்டம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது.
இவ்வாய்ப்பை பயன்படுத்தி மேட்டுப்பாளையம் வனக்கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனத்தைச் TNAU - FCRI சேர்ந்த நான்காம் ஆண்டு பயிலும் ஐந்து மாணவர்கள் அடங்கிய குழுவினர் மேற்கொண்டனர்.
SKCRF வளாகத்தில் உள்ள மரங்களின் வகைகள், எண்ணிக்கை, சுற்றளவு, தோராயமான உயரம் மற்றும் பிற முக்கியமான சுற்றுச்சூழல் காரணிகளை விரிவாகப் ஆவணப்படுத்தி உள்ளனர்.
கடந்த 2009-ஆம் ஆண்டு முதல், SKCRF வளாகம் பாரம்பரிய மரக்கன்றுகளை நட்டு, வளர்த்து அதன் பசுமைப் பரப்பைத் தொடர்ந்து அதிகரித்து வருகிறது. 2024 ஆம் ஆண்டு நொய்யல் வானம் திட்டம் மூலம் 16000 மர கன்றுகள் நட்டு பராமரித்து வருவது குறிப்பிட தக்கது.
இன்று, இந்த வளாகத்தில் சுமார் 60 வகையான நாட்டு இன மரங்கள் வளர்ந்து உள்ளது. பொதுவாக மழை மறைவு பிரதேசமான காங்கயம் வட்டத்தில் ,ஒரு செழுமையான பல்லுயிர் மண்டலத்தை உருவாக்கி உள்ளதை ஆவணப்படுத்தி உள்ளத்தில் பெருமிதம் கொள்கிறோம் .
இந்த பல்லுயிர் பெருக்கத்திற்கு ஒரு முக்கிய காரணியாக, 2017-ஆம் ஆண்டில் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட நான்கு ஏக்கர் பரப்பளவிலான மழைநீர் சேகரிப்புக் குட்டை முக்கிய பங்கு வகித்து உள்ளது. இந்த மழை நீர் சேமிப்பு குட்டையில் மூலம் பண்ணைக்குத் தேவையான நீர் பாதுகாப்பை வழங்குவதோடு மட்டுமல்லாமல், நிலத்தடி நீர் மட்டத்தை உயர்த்தவும் உதவுகிறது.
இதன் மூலம் SKCRF வளாகம் மட்டுமின்றி, சுற்றியுள்ள விவசாய நிலங்களும், கிராமங்களும் பயன்பெறுகின்றன. இந்த நீர்நிலையைச் சுற்றி சுமார் 60 வகையான பாரம்பரிய - நாடு இன மரங்கள் வளர்க்கப்பட்டு, பறவைகள், பூச்சிகள், மகரந்தச் சேர்க்கையாளர்கள் மற்றும் பிற வனவிலங்குகளை அடைக்கலம் தந்து செழுமையான சுற்றுச்சூழல் அமைப்பு உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இந்நிகழ்ச்சியில் பேசிய SKCRF நிர்வாக அறங்காவலர் கார்த்திகேய சிவசேனாபதி, “பல ஆண்டுகளாக நட்டு வளர்க்கப்பட்ட மரங்களின் வளர்ச்சியைப் பார்ப்பதும், அதை வனவியல் மாணவர்கள் அறிவியல் பூர்வமாக ஆவணப்படுத்துவதும் மகிழ்ச்சி அளிக்கிறது. இத்தகைய ஆவணமாக்கல், எதிர்கால சுற்றுச்சூழல் கண்காணிப்பு மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பு முயற்சிகளுக்கு ஒரு முக்கியமான அடிப்படைப் பதிவாக அமையும்” என்று குறிப்பிட்டார்.
மேலும் அவர் கூறுகையில், “காலநிலை மாற்றம் மற்றும் உலக வெப்பமயமாதல் ஆகியவை உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள சமூகங்களைப் பாதித்து வரும் வேளையில், இதுபோன்ற முன்முயற்சிகள் மிகவும் அவசியமானதாக மாறுகின்றன. வெப்பநிலை உயர்வு, நீண்ட கால வறட்சி, தீவிர வானிலை நிகழ்வுகள், பற்றாக்குறை மற்றும் பல்லுயிர் இழப்பு ஆகியவை அடிக்கடி நிகழ்ந்து வருகின்றன. பல பகுதிகளில் கடுமையான வெப்பம் தாங்காமல் பூச்சிகள் பறவைகள், குறிப்பாக வௌவால்கள், விலங்குகள் மற்றும் மனிதர்கள் கூட உயிரிழக்கும் சம்பவங்கள் கவலை அளிக்கிறது ” என்றார்.
“காலநிலை மாற்றத்தை எதிர்கொள்ள மரங்களை நடுவது எளிமையான மற்றும் மிகச் சிறந்த வழிகளில் ஒன்றாகும். இருப்பினும், பாதுகாப்பு என்பது நடவு செய்வதோடு முடிந்துவிடுவதில்லை. மரங்களைப் பாதுகாத்து, கண்காணித்து, ஆவணப்படுத்தி, அவை ஒரு முழுமையான சுற்றுச்சூழல் அமைப்பாக வளர அனுமதிக்க வேண்டும். நீர் பாதுகாப்பும் பல்லுயிர் பாதுகாப்பும் கைகோர்த்துச் செயல்பட வேண்டும். நான்கு ஏக்கர் மழைநீர் சேகரிப்புக் குளமும், அதைச் சுற்றியுள்ள மரங்களின் அடர்த்தியும், தொடர்ச்சியான முயற்சியின் மூலமாக சுற்றுச்சூழல் மறுசீரமைப்பை எவ்வாறு சாதிக்க முடியும் என்பதைக் காட்டுகின்றன,” என்றும் அவர் தெரிவித்தார்.
இந்த ஆவணப் பணியை மிகச் சிறப்பாகவும், தொழில்முறைத் திறனுடன் மேற்கொண்டு பங்களித்த மேட்டுப்பாளையம் வனவியல் கல்லூரி மற்றும் ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனத்தின் முதல்வர் திரு பாலசுப்பிரமணியம், மற்றும் பேராசிரியர்கள் மற்றும் மாணவர்களுக்கும் SKCRF தனது நன்றியைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறது.
காலநிலைச் சவால்கள் தொடர்ந்து தீவிரமடைந்து வரும் நிலையில், எதிர்கால சந்ததியினருக்காகப் பசுமைப் பகுதிகளை உருவாக்கவும், நீர் ஆதாரங்களை மீட்டெடுக்கவும், பல்லுயிர்ப் பெருக்கத்தை வலுப்படுத்தவும் மேலும் பல விவசாயிகள், கல்வி நிறுவனங்கள், தொழில்துறையினர் மற்றும் சமூகங்கள் இதுபோன்ற முயற்சிகளை மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என SKCRF நம்புகிறது.

Forest College Students Document Native Tree Diversity at SKCRF Campus
A scientific tree documentation and biodiversity assessment programme was recently carried out at the Senaapathy Kangayam Cattle Research Foundation (SKCRF), Kuttappalayam, Kangayam Taluk, Tiruppur District.
The study was undertaken by a team of five fourth-year students from the Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam. The students conducted a detailed documentation of the trees present within the SKCRF campus, recording species details, tree numbers, girth measurements, height estimations, and other important ecological parameters.
The SKCRF campus has been steadily developing its green cover since 2009 through the planting and nurturing of native tree species. Today, the campus is home to around 60 species of indigenous trees, creating a rich biodiversity zone within an otherwise semi-arid region.
A key feature of the campus is a four-acre rainwater harvesting pond created in 2017. Besides providing water security for the farm, the pond plays an important role in groundwater recharge, benefiting not only the SKCRF campus but also neighbouring agricultural lands and villages. Around this water body, nearly 60 species of native trees have been established, creating a thriving ecosystem that supports birds, insects, pollinators, and other forms of wildlife.
Speaking on the occasion, SKCRF Managing Trustee Karthikeya Sivasenapathy said that it was gratifying to see the growth of trees planted over the years and to have them scientifically documented by forestry students. He noted that such documentation creates an important baseline record for future ecological monitoring and conservation efforts.
He further observed that initiatives of this nature are becoming increasingly important at a time when climate change and global warming are affecting communities across the world. Rising temperatures, prolonged droughts, extreme weather events, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss are becoming more frequent. Incidents of birds, bats, animals, and even people succumbing to extreme heat have become a matter of concern in many regions.
“Planting trees is one of the simplest and most effective ways to address climate change. However, conservation does not end with planting. Trees must be protected, monitored, documented, and allowed to grow into functioning ecosystems. Water conservation and biodiversity conservation must go hand in hand. The four-acre rainwater harvesting pond and the native tree cover around it demonstrate how ecological restoration can be achieved through sustained effort and commitment,” he said.
SKCRF thanked Dean Thiru Balasubramaniam, the faculty members, and the students of the Forest College and Research Institute, Mettupalayam, for their valuable contribution and professional efforts in carrying out the documentation exercise.
As climate challenges continue to intensify, SKCRF hopes that more farmers, educational institutions, industries, and communities will undertake similar initiatives to create green spaces, restore water resources, and strengthen biodiversity for future generations.
