Becoming UpRooted

My name is Lalit Choudhary and UpRooted Farm is my newest project. What started with a piece of land in the Aravali Hills near Udaipur has turned into a dream of something much bigger. I have always loved working with the land...planting, cultivating, and harvesting. There’s something so wholesome and fulfilling about the farm to table experience. With a growing curiousity in Permaculture and excitement for new ideas in sustainable farming, I decided that this is a better time than ever to pursue my interests and start a farm.

In Udaipur I run a cafe where I meet hundreds of travellers from all over the world and from all over India. They come to Udaipur searching for something...for some authentic experience that can turn into a lasting memory they will take with them when they leave. I realized that with my land in the countryside, I could create that experience for them…while also enhancing my own experience with the farm. That’s when I became inspired to create a countryside camping and farming experience where people can stay on the land and enjoy the serenity of the countryside and also learn about the local way of life. Guests can sleep under the stars and gather around the campfire sharing stories and making music. I’d love to see the idea grow over time and provide valuable social experiences such as yoga and guided mediation retreats, art & music performances, or permaculture educational courses.

The options are endless and I’m excited to watch this project grow. I envision UpRooted Farm to be a place where I can pour my heart into the land, learn exstensively about sustainable farming, and meet new people who I can share experiences with and learn from. I’m excited to take a baron piece of earth and watch it become something spectacular. All the while giving travellers a place to relax and commune with nature.
