“Robusta?”
That was one of the most interesting reactions we heard over the last three days at Anuga Select India 2026.
There is still a perception that Robusta is somehow lesser than Arabica.
But standing at the Mountain Brewed Coffee stall and speaking with buyers, coffee professionals, HoReCa representatives, distributors and coffee enthusiasts, I realised something:
The conversation is changing.
People were curious.
Not just about the coffee, but about its origin, flavour, processing, quality and potential.
Our 100% Robusta from Wayanad, Kerala became the starting point for some fascinating conversations.“
- Why Wayanad?”
- What makes Indian Robusta different?
- Can Robusta be positioned as a premium coffee?
- What is its potential in international markets?
These were not conversations about Arabica versus Robusta.
They were conversations about understanding Robusta on its own terms.
Robusta has a story that deserves to be told beyond its traditional role in blends and commercial coffee - a story rooted in Indian soil, farmers, resilience, distinctive character and an evolving coffee culture.
Being part of Coffees of India by the Coffee Board of India gave us the opportunity to put Wayanad Robusta in front of a much wider audience.
Three days later, we are leaving with something more valuable than just business conversations: A lot more people are asking the right questions about Robusta and sometimes, a changing industry begins with nothing more than a good question.
Maybe the future of Indian coffee has more Robusta in it than we think. ☕
