Aiyor Bai

Aiyor Bai Aiyor Bai, is the traditional name of our ancestral farm where we are working to build soil health in turn to build our health. Saturdays work for me best.

Aiyor Bai, is the traditional given name of this piece of land. Aiyyawari (of the lord), Bai (water well)...'Well of the lord' somehow over a period of time got shortened to Aiyor Bai. Its the name which has always been associated with the land and still continues to be. Most farms in our village are named after the water well on the land. Plenty of "Mangoes and Memories" associated with this spac

e, which is where we spent many childhood summers. Organic, not just in the use of the word but to come to juncture where the farm practices sustainable agriculture rather than just chemical free farming. Organic to us means ecologically true agriculture. We started the journey couple 4 years back by cutting back on the fertilizers and since last season (2013) we have not used any chemicals . The remaining land has been left fallow for last 2 -5 years on which we will/have cultivated millets, pulses and vegetables. It a journey we hope we can take with others, who have done before us and share what we learn for those following. Thanks in advance for all your queries and also your encouragement. At this point we are not ready to have farm stays or long term volunteers. For those wanting to know more about farming please read this

Years back in 2008 while travelling in Bandarban , the property owner looked at my passport and took me all the way down to show me these beautiful flowers. Did you know you were named after this tree? No I didn't. All I knew was my name was chosen from the Glaxo book of names.

Don't ask me why but it's one of my favourite trees. Trying to get the yellow and white mutations of the red variety as well.

Just from one tree! Variety called Balaji that we planted about 7 years back.

Slowly but surely I figured out the pruning of lemons and how to induce some flowering so that we can get some lemons throughout the year.

That pretty much all my brother asks for from the farm.

At the current market prices that we have to shell out we just store these for ourselves. We don't even pluck. Whatever falls to the ground is picked. No trying to outsmart the thorny branches
