Presenting to you the "kiwi fruit" aka Chinese gooseberry. It is low on calories and contains more fibers. a. b. c. d.

Its characteristics furry exterior holds a delicious treasure inside, a pretty green (or golden) flesh flecked with soft black seeds and a white centre. A ripe kiwi fruit is refreshing, delicate in flavor with a pleasing aroma and high nutritive value. It is mostly eaten as a fresh fruit; it makes a great combination for desserts and salad. al value. Fruits are very rich in vitamin C and minerals like potassium, phosphorus and iron. It holds a “wealth is health” giving property, thus recommended for patients suffering from diabetes and heart diseases. Origin:

Known to be the “miracle fruit” of China and the “horticultural wonder” of New Zealand, kiwifruit belongs to the genus ‘Actinidia’. In India, the area under its cultivation is negligible being a new exotic introduction. In the north-eastern states, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim & Manipur have vast successful cultivation of kiwifruit. At present, 7 cultivars of kiwi are introduced in India. Himalayan Kiwi Orchard:

1. Location: it Is located at ‘Dibii’ forest of Hari village, Lower Subansiri District, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh. It is situated at 1700m MSL and the area is endowed with rich and well drained loamy soil. It has dried to humid climate with moderate to high rainfall. All these factors combined together to provide for a healthy environment for rich cultivation of kiwi fruits at Dibii (Ziro).
2. Road Connectivity: It is reachable by light and heavy vehicles.
3. Nearest commercial market in A.P: Naharlagun which is 102 km by road from ziro. Nearest commercial market in North-East: Guwahati, which is 442km by road from ziro.
4. Production: out of the 7 cultivars introduced in India, Himalayan Kiwi Orchard cultivates 4 cultivars namely, ‘Hayward’ , ‘Bruno’, ‘Monty’ and ‘Allison’. Hayward: is the most common and popular cultivar. It is oval I shape. It has fibrous, dull greenish-brown skin and bright green or golden flesh with rows of tiny, black edible seeds. It weighs about 80 gm and above. Bruno: it requires comparatively less chilling period. The fruits are tapering in shape towards the stem end. It is dark brown having very dense, short and bristly hair. It is longest among all cultivars and has the highest ascorbic acid content. Its bearing is heavy. Allison: it is early flowering and early maturing cultivar. The shape is oblong but slightly broader in proportion to its length. It is also a heavy bearer and sweetest in taste. Ascorbic acid is on the lower side. Monty: This variety is a prolific bearer and is a late mature. Fruits are oblong and resemble Allison.

Arunachal delegation has visited one of the most well-known Kiwi orchards cm packaging units of Seeka Company, located on the outskirts of Melbourne City, Australia, covering an area of 600 hectares with 73 varieties of kiwis and other stone fruits. The delegation also explored the possibility of collaborating with Seeka for knowledge sharing on technical know-how on scientific kiwi cultivation. The Seeka Company representatives showed the delegation root stock cultivation and high-density pears cultivation, which is unique to learn. The visit to Seeka field was worth learning for the delegation, and they hope to get more opportunities in the near future.
