Always exciting to visit Francesca Castaldi’s vineyard.
“The last place where you expect some vineyards in Italy.” Fara is the most South appellation of the Alto Piemonte, surrounded by rice fields and cow farms for your favorite Gorgonzola Cheese.

We were tasting wine with our friends from CT and tasting the whole lineup.
Great Erbaluce “Lucia” (bonus bottle of 2017 was precious), Pianazzi: the everyday Nebbiolo you learned to love last year and finally on its way back to our warehouse. Vespolina, Uva Rara and Fara DOC complete the mosaic of this unique terroir.

Thanks Castaldi family for being so welcoming and polite, your care for guests is always incredible.

On day 7, and the final day of the Strade Bianche 2025 Wine Trip. We visited another one of Peter’s vineyards and explored his tiny cellar underneath his families kitchen. Truly insane. Every year Peter has to haul his empty barriques up and down a very steep flight of stairs to clean them. Just one reason his wines are such a labor of love.

We then travelled to Cormons to meet with Moreno and Francesca from . We explored one of their close by vineyards as well as their newly built winery. We tasted through their line up in their barrel room and enjoyed some of the best prosciutto of the trip.

We sent the trip off with an unforgettable meal at La Subida Sirk. An old hunting lodge turned incredible restaurant. We dug deep into their amazing wine lists and enjoyed some stellar bottles.

With hearts and bellies full. We return to the USA more excited than ever to show you the wines made by our incredible producers. We look forward to sharing their stories with you. And most of all we look forward to sharing good food, good wine, and good laughter.

On day 6 of the Strade Bianche 2025 Wine Tour we travelled to Franciacorta to meet with the legend himself Nicola Gatta. We tasted some vin claire’s of different cuvées and explored his barrel room. We walked one of his new Pinot Blanc vineyards. And Nicola explained the importance of planting many small vineyards. Small vineyards not to make single vineyard cuvées but instead to create a more complex terroir for the blend of sites. It also helps as an insurance policy. We tasted through many of his bottlings over a fantastic lunch of steaks, and fried pig skin, with bread from Altamura.

We then made the long drive to Carso to visit Peter Radovic. We made it just in time to catch a sunset aperitif in one of his vineyards that sits overlooking the Adriatic. We then enjoyed a lovely meal tasting delicious Carso cuisine and the entire array of Peter’s wines.

On day 5 of the Strade Bianche 2025 Wine Trip we made our way to the small DOCG of Fara in Alto Piemonte. We met with Francesca Castaldi and her son Marco. We enjoyed a beautiful Al Fresco lunch of typical Fara cuisine that paired so well the Francesca Castaldi’s fresh and light win

On day 4 of the Strade Bianche 2025 Wine Tour we travelled to the village of Barolo to meet with .marello.prandi. Cristina told us about her efforts to resurrect her families namesake wines. She told us about how the work that she does is not just for the benefit of wine drinkers, but for the people of Barolo.

We travelled on to Roero to see the wild vineyards of . And taste the new vintages. The Nebbiolo’s and Arneis have a rugged alpine elegance that is reflected in the land.

Finally we finished the evening in La Morra with Alessandro of who speaks to us of the sometimes arbitrary designation of boundary lines. We enjoyed a long dinner and the next day it was off to Valtellina!

On day 3 of the Strade Bianche 2025 Tour we travelled into the heart of Barolo. We began our day with Ito and Steve of Borgogno e Carbone and also of the legendary . They showed us their small holdings in the Santo Stefano cru before we went to meet their assistant Mattea at their older family owned Langhe Vineyard. Mattea told us about the knowledge that he has gained from working with Ito and Steven.

We travelled on to Alta Langa where we had lunch at to enjoy Tuma cheese and sparkling Alta Langa wines.

We then went to one of the vineyards of where we spoke with Daniele about Gian Luca’s vision and the efforts that Daniele and the whole team put in to continue to improve vintage by vintage.

Finally we returned in the evening to La Morra for dinner at More e Macine to meet Luca, Francesco, and Simone from .wine. The new future masters of Timorasso. We tasted their 2021, 2022, and 2023 vintages.

First and foremost we learned about the diverse landscapes and terroirs of the Langhe. But more importantly we saw how new generations of winemakers were learning from the previous generations. Through collaboration and the sharing of new ideas, the future of Langhe wines looks brighter than ever.
