👨🏼‍🌾Flavio Roddolo - One of a kind.
We feel lucky to have built a relationship with this winemaker , more vintner🍇. I have written many times about my experiences with Flavio so I won’t bore you with repeating about his no rush approach in the cellar and love for the vineyards.

🍷Last week We tasted his current lineup of Barolo and Nebbiolo 2016s! Needless to say… bomba💣!
2018 Dolcettos - lighter than usual but can be expected from the vintage. The 2013 is his current release Barbera.. who said Barberas can’t age!? And his Cabernet 2012!

🍇Unfortunately Flavio is slowing down and his stubborn mind wants to keep going even if his body is letting him down a bit… Luckily he has one helper in the vineyards and cellar and his nephew. We are so happy to be able to make an order of his “new” releases and also have quite a selection of his past vintages if you are interested. There is so much soul in his wine and at his winery and we feel blessed🩷

If you want to know what we have available write me!

has published the first winery guide for visitors in English starting with Piemonte! I have always wanted to do something like this since I arrived over 20 years ago! It is interesting to see how they rate hospitality..etc and provide information about the tasting fees and of course the families🍷

It seems like books are coming my way so let me know if there are any types of piedmont books that you are interested in! Technical, food books, guide books etc.

PS. It was so hot and humid to taste the wines afterwards but probably my favorite wine of the evening was .wine Barbaresco Gallina and Barolo Rocche d’ Annunziata 21!

I love travelling throughout Italy🇮🇹 even if it isn’t as exotic as visiting far away countries. Of course I love seeing the sites and history but most of all it is for tasting local and regional cuisines and wines! This trip we visited: Tuscany, Lazio and Campania. On our last night we tasted this and I had to refresh my memory about this Vesuvio Doc.

The Lacryma Christi is almost like a sub denomination of the Vesuvio DOC and surrounds the Volcano. This one was a white Vesuvio (you can have red or rosato for example) and there was a bit of confusion about the grape because I was told there was Caprettone which I had never heard of. In fact I later found out that was the local name for
🍇 Min. 40% Coda di Volpe (for its cluster shape that looks like a Foxtail) with the rest being usually Falanghina, Greco (Max di 35%) e altri bianchi locali.
🍇 The vineyards must be on slopes in volcanic origin soils.
🍇 Yields must be max of 2,500 vines per hectare
🍇From the pressing, only 65% of wine can be obtained for the Doc regulations

🪵 Usually it is just aged in stainless steel@to preserve the minerality and freshness from the grapes.

🍝 Pairing: Clam or seafood pastas, Mussels, Mozzarella di bufala

Do you know why it is called Lacryma di Cristo? (Tears of Christ?)
💧🩸Legends:
A piece of heaven fell in the Gulf of Napoli when Lucifer was kicked out. He had taken that piece with him and Christ was so upset, his tears fell. From where they fell, vines grew giving the name to the wines from the area.

Another version says that monks had documented the word Lagrima which referred to a drip filtering process they may have used.

I like the 1st idea don’t you?

Have you ever tried a Lacryma di Cristo?

Our first portion of our vacation was in Tuscany’s region of Maremma. It is a Southern Coastal region bordering Lazio and is known for its untouched wilderness. The main grapes here are:
🍇 Sangiovese
🍇 Ciliegiolo
🍇 Cab Sauv
🍇 Merlot
🍇 Vermentino

Top Wine denominations:
🍷Super Tuscans- (Sangiovese and Bordeaux blends)
🍷Morellino di Scansano DOCG (85% Sangiovese)
🍷Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG (90% Sangiovese)
🍷Suvereto DOCG (Cab, Merlot, Sangiovese)
Which ones did I forget!?

Regional cuisine:
🐗 Wild Boar
🥟 Tortelli
🐟 Fish Roe

I can’t wait to come back and explore Maremma because it is beautiful!! Have you ever been? We loved this Morellino.. good acid and tannin and beautiful nose of berries and cherry!

⭐️⭐️⭐️Today I had the honor of meeting who has spent years dedicating his life to collecting stories, recipes and meeting with chefs, farmers and winemakers from Piemonte. As it happens to many of us, he particularly fell in love with Piemonte through the 🍇NEBBIOLO grape! He is such a warm friendly and humble person and I am so thrilled that I got to grab my copy straight from him today over a coffee between his busy schedule. What a pleasure… I can’t wait to devour his book!

☝🏽If you are interested please write me in the comments and I can help hook you up!

👀🫡PS. In the second picture Jeff is showing me that my shoulder is actually in one of the photos at Trediberri😂😂 So I can say I have been published!
