Best trails in Aotearoa. 85km. 20th February 2027.

Putting yourself first, never second means fuelling properly is simply part of showing up for the people who show up for you. So to enter:

Imagine: 4 hours into Old Ghost. 240g of carbs, stacked like image #2
➡️ Comment the total correct amount of Sodium in mg from image #2
➡️ Tag a trail loving friend who should enter as well.
➡️ Follow and

Correct answers go in the draw. One entry per person.

This is based on 60g of carb an hour which sits within the research ranges for long events. That’s a general guide, not a plan for everyone. Sodium needs vary by person and conditions, so practise your fuelling in training.

ENTRIES CLOSE Sunday 18th Oct, 8pm NZT.

The winner will be drawn that evening and contacted by DM from only. We’ll never ask for payment or card details. **Neversecond NZ reserves the right to amend, suspend, extend, re-draw or withdraw this giveaway if circumstances beyond our reasonable control require it (including changes to the Old Ghost Ultra event). Any changes will be posted accordingly.

Met our global athletes? Let us introduce you to 9 of the crew who are out there doing what they love doing!

From Kona to the Cape Epic to the UTMB ➡️

Emily Sisson.

Set the North American marathon record in 2022, running 2:18:29 in Chicago.

She’s a two-time Olympian. She raced the 10,000m on the track in Tokyo, then made Paris on the road after finishing runner-up at the US Marathon Trials. She has also held the American half marathon record.

Neversecond is her official and exclusive performance nutrition partner.

Keegan Swenson.

2025 Marathon MTB World Champion.

He won three straight Life Time Grand Prix titles, the first rider to do it. At Leadville he broke his own 100 MTB course record, finishing in under 5:50. He also has wins at Unbound Gravel 10 and Sea Otter.

He’s a long-time Neversecond athlete, running C90 and C30 drink mixes alongside the gels. He has a soft spot for Passion Fruit.

Ruth Croft.

2025 UTMB champion.

She needs no introduction. Our very own, from Stillwater on the West Coast. Her wins include Western States, CCC, OCC and Les Templiers, plus multiple Tarawera titles. Her favourite race is the Old Ghost Ultra.

She came on board with Neversecond in the lead-up to UTMB and built her race around a gut-training strategy.

Jim Walmsley.

Four-time Western States champion.

He won UTMB in 2023. He found Neversecond through his own research and switched quietly before that race. He says he could hold down 60g of carbs an hour, and that it helped him most in the last 50km.

Sofia Gomez Villafañe.

Three-time Life Time Grand Prix champion.

Argentinian, this wāhine toa won the Cape Epic in 2025 and races gravel and singletrack.

Her Neversecond wish list is short 🤭 She’d like a Passion Fruit C30 Sports Drink to match her favourite gel.

Rudy von Berg.

3rd at the 2024 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.

He won IRONMAN Texas 2023 by 13 seconds in a sprint finish, and set the IRONMAN Florida course record that same year in 7:34:41.

Rudy has been with Neversecond since day one. At Texas he took one C90 and one C30 gel every hour. That’s 120g of carbohydrate an hour, a trained-gut number built at pro level.

Squeeze it, Refresh with it, Chew it, Sip it.
Same Ratio. Fuel + Electrolytes.
What combo of textures works for you?

The trails here don't care what worked in France. Good thing the C-Series was tested on both.

Same 30g. Same maths. It's here. All of it.

Imagine this: you're 32ks deep. You're trying to remember if you've had 3 gels or 4 + fluid carbs from an aid station.... You are currently running and your gut isn't happy. You try to count on your fingers. Everything is not fine.

That's exactly the moment this system was built for, and exactly why we brought it to Aotearoa.

Carb Math can get complicated... We solved that.

Squeeze, chew, refresh or sip, the numbers all land on a clean 30 (or 90, if you're going long). No more 49g + 57g finger-counting mid-stride. Count the 30s, stack the 200s.

4 formats. Stack it. Track it. Same maths every time. Way fewer finger-counting incidents.

Why pick a favourite texture? You don't have to. All 4 live now.

By hour 3, another gel can start to feel like a chore.

That's where C30 Fuel Bar comes in. Same carbohydrate system and logic as the C30 gel, just built to chew instead of squeeze. It's just landed in Aotearoa for the first time, live now on >> https:/www.never2.co.nz

It joins the C30 and C30+ Energy Gels, C30 Sports Drink Mix and C90 High Carb Drink Mix. One system. Add units up for the long days, drop them down for the short ones. Easy.

Rod Farvard. Maybe not a household name here in Aotearoa, but he’s one of the best in the world at going long, and worth a follow this weekend as he races the UTMB.

Top 10 finisher in 2025 and back for more, here’s the thing that connects him to every one of us. Out there, past a certain point, it stops being about fitness. It’s whether you can keep taking food on when your body’s stopped wanting it.

Doesn’t matter if it’s 170k around Mont Blanc or your first long one in Aoteroa. Same wall, same reason people fall apart.

Nobody trains for that bit. Everyone should. Your gut can be trained like anything else.

Good luck out there, Rod Farvard. We’ll be cheering! 👏

A few notes to self from up here >>

Note to self: the long days go faster with good people in front of you. Poles out, quality chat on, the legs sort themselves out.

Note to self: actually stop. Not a glance over the shoulder, a proper stop. 360 degrees of exactly why you are here.

Note to self: everyone’s got their secret weapon in their pocket for a reason. Long day, fuel right. Nobody bonks on purpose.

Note to self: local carbs are a love language. Also bring backup. The treats and the gel aren’t enemies, they’re a team.

Note to self: you are very small out here and that’s the best part. Rock, green, sky, quiet. The mountain doesn’t care about your PB. Weirdly freeing.

Note to self: fuel before you need it, not when you’re already cooked. Ask me how I know.

Note to self: sitting down is a tactic, not a weakness. 5 minutes, a gel, a look around, then up you get.

Note to self: always listen to your guide. One hand on the cable. Do not, under any circumstances, let go of the cable. That’s the whole note.

Note to self: stop and smell the roses. Berry gel, old stone everywhere, legs finally quiet. The best days end slow.

More field notes from the loop to come.

Definition of a holiday, according to Mark: fly to France, “relax,” then climb 1,380m up La Tournette above Lake Annecy because the view of Mont Blanc is apparently worth the ladders.

We’re not judging. We’re taking notes. Because whether your big day is here or over there, the fuelling doesn’t change. Count the 30s, plus sodium in the heat, back yourself, go long.

Where’s your next big one? 📍
