13 years ago I left NYC for Italy. I realize it would have been a lot harder if I didn’t have so many strong, independent women in my life. My mom, my sister, my dearest friends, my business partner.

For ten years I’ve been running my winery. To this day it is surprising to men that I am doing this on my own. “Surely your husband is involved…” “Who is your consulting agronomist or enologist?” Do my male counterparts get asked these questions?

Just some thoughts on International Women’s Day. Oh, and f**k the patriarchy.

🇬🇧 One way to tell if your vine is experiencing water stress during the summer is by observing shoot growth. In this photo, you can see a healthy vine with vigorous growth. When the space between new leaves (internodes) shortens and fewer baby leaves appear, it’s often a sign of water stress.

Since switching to regenerative farming, we’ve seen a significant decrease in water stress. By keeping the vineyard floor covered year-round, the soil stays moist and cool, even as summer temperatures rise.

🇮🇹 Un modo per capire se una vite sta soffrendo di stress idrico durante i mesi estivi è osservare la crescita dei tralci. In questa foto si vede una vite sana, con una crescita vigorosa. Quando lo spazio tra le nuove foglie (internodi) si accorcia e compaiono poche foglioline giovani, spesso è un segnale di stress idrico.

Da quando abbiamo adottato pratiche agricole rigenerative, lo stress idrico nelle nostre vigne è diminuito notevolmente. Mantenendo il suolo del vigneto sempre coperto, il terreno rimane umido e fresco anche con l’aumento delle temperature estive.
