“Wine Of The Week” Malvasia or Malvazia…the sweet version is referred to as Malmsey.

I am not a white wine drinker, however the golden sunshine color of this wine intrigued me during my recent visit to Liberrima wine shop Lecce. Massimo assured me that it was a special wine that I should try…so I did. Beyond the beautiful color, the aroma of grapefruit with a hint of musk, the soft taste of apricots, peaches, lemons, nectarines and the quick fresh finish sold me. I even took a bottle home to enjoy later.

Originating in Greece this grape is now grown in Reggio Calabria, Bari and Sicily. It reminds me of “Albarino” a Portuguese and Spanish wine that I enjoyed at a winery in Michigan of all places. I can enjoy just sipping this variety or pairing with roasted veggies and a meaty white fish with capers.
