nspiring the effigy of a woman’s head with windblown hair found on every bottle. But we would like to tell you another story. This time it tells how the winery was born. The Donnafugata adventure began in the Rallo family’s historic cellars in Marsala, in 1983, and at its Contessa Entellina vineyards in the heart of western Sicily. In 1989, Donnafugata arrived on the island of Pantelleria, commencing its production of “naturally” sweet wines. In eastern Sicily, where Mount Etna is located, the highest active volcano in Europe, we chosen the northern side to produce mountain, volcanic and Mediterranean wines. In south-eastern Sicily, in the area of Vittoria Doc and Cerasuolo di Vittoria Docg, we produce soft reds with a floral soul. Last but not least

Benvenuto nella pagina ufficiale di Donnafugata. Uno spazio prima di tutto dedicato a te che, come noi, ami conversare di fronte ad un calice di buon vino. Il nostro nome Donnafugata, letteralmente "donna in fuga", fa riferimento alla regina Maria Carolina, che, ai primi dell'800 fuggì da Napoli per l'arrivo delle truppe napoleoniche e si rifugiò in quella parte della Sicilia dove oggi si trovano i vigneti aziendali. Questa vicenda ha ispirato l’effige l'effige della testa di donna coi capelli al vento che campeggia su ogni nostra bottiglia. Ma c'è un'altra storia che vorremmo raccontarti. Questa volta parla della nascita dell'azienda. L'avventura di Donnafugata prende avvio nel 1983 dalle storiche cantine della famiglia Rallo, a Marsala e nelle vigne di Contessa Entellina, nel cuore della Sicilia occidentale; nel 1989 Donnafugata giunge sull'isola di Pantelleria dove inizia a produrre vini naturali dolci. Nella Sicilia orientale, dove si trova l’Etna: il vulcano attivo più alto d’Europa, Donnafugata ha scelto il versante Nord per produrre vini di montagna, vulcanici e mediterranei. Nella Sicilia sud-orientale, Donnafugata sceglie un territorio ad alta vocazione per produrre vini rossi morbidi e dall’animo floreale. Last but not least
