Moments of joy between Ferragosto and the moment the new harvest kicks off: The WineHunter Merano 2026 awards are in! And two "strikes"!! It must be said that I've won gold previously but with wines I make for other wineries. This is the first time I win gold (actually TWO golds) with my own wines. Who's a good boy? 😎 🍾🍾🍾
And the winners are: and
🏅 GOLD «C-Tin» Colli Tortonesi DOC Croatina Riserva 2023 🍀: 100% old vines organic Croatina from Timorasso's land. BTW the award arrived precisely on the birthday date of the person that this wine is dedicated to.
🏅 GOLD «Bric Sghinon» Roero Arneis DOCG vigneto storico vigneto eroico 2025. Old vines Arneis from the "famous" Mount Slide (the meaning of the name) in Guarene, officially classified as "historic vineyard" (proven existence before 1960) and "heroic vineyard" (more than 30% inclination). This vineyard is actually "superheroic": not only the slope is more than 50%, but also the rows are vertical (Mosel style).
🥉 RED «Sybbo» Piemonte DOC Favorita Moscato extra brut millesimato 2020. Dedicated to my kite surfing brother Sibo Atanasov aka «La Pazza» (the crazy one - the wine, not him!). Skins, amphora, lees, tonneau then bottle, this wine's way was nothing but simple and easy. Grapes from Alta Langa (Scorrone and Rovere subzones of Cossano Belbo).

Tomorrow we are taking part for the first time in the Free Grape Society (FGS - Free Grape Society) tasting in Canelli. The following wines will be offered:
🔸 «Bric Sghijon» Roero Arneis DOCG vigneto storico vigneto eroico 2025 – our first “young” Arneis from the old & heroic vineyard in Guarene;
🔸 «Nemorosa» Langhe DOC Rosato Sorì Eroici Sorì Eroici 2025 BIO 🍀– our new “💣”, a “Nebbiolo” blend (60% Nebbiolo & 40% Mexican “Nebbiolo” aka Moretto), from another heroic vineyard in Cossano Belbo;
🔸«Jeff Pramas» Langhe DOC Nebbiolo Sorì Eroici 2023 BIO 🍀 – a not exactly “classic” Nebbiolo from the same vineyard in Cossano;
⚠️ As an “extra-treat” we’ll also offer a vertical of our Mexican “Nebbiolo” from the 2019, 2020 and 2022 vintages. 🍷🍷🍷

VINUM magazine (Switzerland) (VINUM - Magazin für Weinkultur) has just released a massive supplement on Piedmont's wines. Quila is honored to be mentioned among the best Roero producers with our first ever edition of the red Roero «Bric Sghijon» 2023. Here's what the tasting note says: «From the Guarene hills in the East part of the (Roero) growing area. Dark ruby, notes of blackcurrant, leather and mushrooms; the texture is crisp, the tannins - robust, with lively acidity and a dynamic finish. Would benefit from further aging».

🍾🍾🍾 First season medals started pouring in! And we couldn't be more glad when our "new baby" is among the first to get them.
🌸 contest by the Swiss VINUM - Magazin für Weinkultur: our Nemorosa got a Silver medal 🥈. I guess the jury had some extended experience of floor varnishing (if AI translated the text correctly) that I personally miss, but Nebbiolo can give varnish notes, especially when carb.mac-ed. «Bright garnet red. Lots of cherry, spring tree bark. Elderflower and marzipan. A touch of floor wax. Very fresh, ethereal, with a slightly tart note. On the palate, a refreshingly tart bitterness, lots of green notes, and young flower buds. Well-balanced acidity. Medium finish».
🌸 then Andrea Radic published this story: «A rosé with a fascinating and full character, aromatic yet vigorous and fresh. Made from a rare grape variety—Lambrusca di Alessandria, also known as Mexican Nebbiolo—wow».
🌸 and just when I was going to publish this my ex-sister in arms Анна Євгенія Янченко | Сомельє | Опис вин | Навчання вину who keeps her finger on the pulse of the world wine trends, posted a list of 6 of those for this summer, and the last one is: «Trend nr 6 (!) is the dark rosé. Yes, it's as if the rosé has grown up and become an adult. It's no longer the pale "almost transparent" Provence. What's fashionable now are the rich, full-bodied rosés, with a deeper color, berry flavor, and character. Such rosés do not get lost next to food - they can easily pair with BBQ, pasta, and aged cheeses».
And here we are! The Nemorosa is a blend of NEbbiolo (60%) & MOretto (40%) (of ROSA color) darker than a regular red Nebbiolo, a result of a 100% wet carbonic maceration. Not sure someone has done that before and with these varieties even less.
Come and try it tomorrow (26/06) in Canale, 27/06 in Magliano Alfieri & on July 4th - in Moncalieri. Don't miss the trend 😎

Il Sabato 27/06 rimaniamo nel Roero ma ci spostiamo a Magliano Alfieri con il suo maestoso castello (dove si potranno visitare i musei). Una cena sotto le stelle dove si potranno assaggiare più di 200 etichette di tutto il Roero, della Langa (Barolo e Barbaresco compresi) e anche dell'Alta Langa. Un'occasione da non perdere!

Arrivata l'estate e si parte con gli eventi. L'estate si tinge subito in rosa con il primo evento venerdì prossimo «Serata in Rosa» presso l'Enoteca Regionale del Roero (Enoteca Regionale del Roero) a Canale: un'apericena con assaggi di vari vini rosati, fermi, frizzanti o spumanti, dei produttori del Roero. E ci saremo anche noi con questi due vini:
🌸 «Nemorosa» Langhe DOC Rosato 2025 , il nostro nuovo rosé, un vero _hit_ della stagione, fatto con uve Nebbiolo (60%) e Moretto (aka Nebbiolo Messicano - 40%) in macerazione carbonica bagnata;
🌸 «Mo🔸Dus» vino rosato frizzante secco tipo pet.nat fatto con uve MOscato (90%) e DUSset (Dolcetto 10%), molto apprezzato in queste giornate calde.

Quila partecipa con una verticale del nostro Dolcetto vecchie viti Bric Bissarello con le etichette artistiche: 2021 (), 2022 () e in esclusiva solo per questo evento l'anteprima dell'anata 2023 (autore dell'etichetta di nuovo Elena Kotliarker). Più il rinfrescante pet.nat MO*DUS a base di Dolcetto e Moscato (etichetta di .sever) Vi aspettiamo numerosi!

🍷 Cantina della settimana: Quilabio

Con sede a Neive, Quila è un progetto nato nel 2019 dalla visione di A. Bisso, con un’impronta biologica e una produzione attenta anche ai percorsi meno convenzionali del vino piemontese con varietà autoctone rare.
Per il Roero, l’elemento più interessante è l’ingresso, dal 2023, di un vigneto nell’area roerina: una parcella in forte pendenza, esposta a sud, piantata per circa due terzi a Nebbiolo e per un terzo ad Arneis. Da qui nascono i vini con cui Quila interpreta anche questo territorio, affiancando alla sede neivese un lavoro concreto sulle colline del Roero.
