La Barbera d’Alba Superiore di Tenuta Cucco nasce nei vigneti di Roddi, sulle marne di Sant’Agata Fossili, antichi sedimenti di origine marina ricchi di argilla, limo e calcare. Nei prossimi giorni vestiremo la nuova annata, la 2024, con le sue nuove etichette.
Ce ne parla Matthias Dean Rossi Cairo: “A La Raia, l’azienda biodinamica che la mia famiglia conduce nel Gavi, abbiamo scelto da sempre di vinificare la Barbera, simbolo della tradizione piemontese, sia in acciaio sia in barrique. A Tenuta Cucco, invece, abbiamo scelto un approccio diverso: la Barbera affina in grandi botti di legno da 25 ettolitri, dove il vino evolve lentamente, acquistando complessità ed equilibrio”.

Matthias Dean Rossi Cairo tells us more: “At La Raia, the biodynamic estate my family runs in Gavi, we have always chosen to vinify Barbera, a symbol of Piedmontese tradition, both in stainless steel and in barriques.
At Tenuta Cucco, however, we have chosen a different approach: our Barbera is aged in large 25-hectolitre wooden casks, where the w**e evolves slowly, gaining complexity and balance.”

LANGHE NEBBIOLO 2024

Tutto nasce dalle uve Nebbiolo, qui in Langa. È così anche a Tenuta Cucco, proprio ai piedi del meraviglioso castello di Serralunga d’Alba. In questi giorni entra sul mercato la nuova annata del nostro Langhe Nebbiolo: la 2024.
A raccontarci questo vino — che rappresenta le vere fondamenta della nostra cantina — è Antonio Abagnale, nostro direttore commerciale. “Il Langhe Nebbiolo al Cucco nasce dalla volontà di esprimere il varietale in purezza. L’idea è di esaltare le naturali caratteristiche del Nebbiolo senza nessuna influenza da affinamento, ed è per questo che lo vinifichiamo interamente in acciaio. Così preserviamo la freschezza del frutto e poniamo l’accento sulla sua naturale acidità e trama tannica, mostrandolo nella sua veste più naturale e giocosa.”

The new 2024 Langhe Nebbiolo vintage is officially hitting the market! Antonio Abagnale, our Commercial Director, introduces the w**e that stands as the true foundation of our w**ery.
“Our Langhe Nebbiolo al Cucco was born from the desire to express the grape variety in its purest form. The idea is to highlight the Nebbiolo’s natural character without any influence from aging, which is why we vinify it entirely in stainless steel. This allows us to preserve the freshness of the fruit while bringing out its natural acidity and tannic structure, showing Nebbiolo in its most authentic, fresh and playful expression”.

BAROLO DEL COMUNE DI SERRALUNGA 2021
Debutta l’annata 2021 del nostro Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba. E con lei anche la nuova veste, per la quale abbiamo scelto i toni caldi e profondi del rosso, accostati al nero, su uno sfondo giallo pergamena arricchito da un accento di grigio materico, ispirato alle nostre marne. Un’etichetta che richiama la sobrietà e l’immediatezza tipiche delle Langhe, terra di grazia e precisione.

Nelle parole di Piero Rossi Cairo: «Il nostro Barolo comunale è quello che, meglio di tutti, sa racchiudere la potenza e l'eleganza di Serralunga d'Alba. La fermentazione in tini troncoconici, due anni di invecchiamento in botte grande e due di affinamento in bottiglia interpretano al meglio un'annata estremamente equilibrata. Una vestizione essenziale che rispecchia il nostro approccio in cantina: classico e minimalista».

The 2021 vintage of our Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba makes its debut. And with it comes a new look, featuring the deep, warm tones of red paired with black against a parchment-yellow background, enriched by a textured gray accent inspired by our marl soils. A label that reflects the understated elegance and directness typical of the Langhe—a land of grace and precision.

In the words of Piero Rossi Cairo: «Our village Barolo captures the power and elegance of Serralunga d’Alba better than any other. Fermentation in truncated oak vats, two years of aging in large casks, and two years of bottle refinement beautifully interpret a remarkably balanced vintage. An essential dress that mirrors our philosophy in the cellar: classic and minimalist».

IL ROSA 2024
Prima ci si innamora del suo colore - non rosa, non salmone, non definitivamente cipria, ma una sfumatura unica che le contiene tutte - poi del suo tratto freschissimo. Il Rosa di Tenuta Cucco, che produciamo da un paio d’anni, è una ventata di buonumore, di allegria, di spensieratezza.

BAROLO RISERVA CERRATI VIGNA CUCCO

Il nostro Barolo Riserva nasce dalla Vigna Cucco, il vigneto che ha dato il nome alla nostra cantina e contribuito a rendere riconosciuto il versante orientale di Serralunga d'Alba nella mappa del Barolo.

Qui, nella MGA Cerrati, a oltre 400 metri di altitudine con esposizione a Est, lungo la parte più luminosa della collina, coltiviamo meno di 1,5 ettari di Nebbiolo su marne di Lequio, tra le formazioni geologiche più antiche della denominazione.

Antonio Abagnale, direttore commerciale di Tenuta Cucco ce ne parla così: «Il Barolo Riserva è per me la massima espressione del Nebbiolo delle nostre terre. La materia e la profondità che questo questo vigneto esprime ci hanno portato a ripensare l'affinamento delle sue uve. È l'unico Nebbiolo che a Tenuta Cucco affiniamo in barrique di rovere francese: tre anni in legno e almeno tre in bottiglia prima della commercializzazione, nel rispetto del tempo necessario affinché esprima il suo autentico carattere.»

Our Barolo Riserva comes from Vigna Cucco, the vineyard that gave our w**ery its name and helped establish the eastern ridge of Serralunga d'Alba among Barolo's most distinctive sites.

Within the Cerrati MGA, at over 400 metres above sea level, we cultivate just under 1.5 hectares of Nebbiolo on ancient Lequio marls, dedicated exclusively to our Barolo Riserva.

Antonio Abagnale, Sales Director at Tenuta Cucco: “This w**e is the highest expression of Nebbiolo from our land. The vineyard's depth and structure led us to rethink its ageing. It remains the only Nebbiolo in our range aged in French oak barriques for three years, followed by three more years in bottle before release—a choice that respects the time needed to reveal its true character."

CRU BRICCO VOGHERA 2021
Sono due i cru di Tenuta Cucco: il Cerrati e il Bricco Voghera.
Stessa collina, a pochi passi dal Castello di Serralunga d’Alba, stesso tipo di vinificazione – botti grandi di rovere da 25 ettolitri – e due esposizioni diverse: il Cerrati si affaccia a sud-sud-est, il Bricco Voghera guarda a nord-ovest e nord-est.
Questi due Barolo sono i protagonisti indiscussi delle nostre degustazioni, proprio per quelle differenze che solo il sole e il suolo sanno imprimere al calice.

Clara Milani, enologo di Tenuta Cucco, ci racconta così l’annata 2021 del Bricco Voghera: «Mi piace descriverlo come un Barolo contemporaneo: la sua duplice esposizione ci permette di garantire freschezza al naso, con note di rosa canina, e grande armonia in bocca. È proprio questa peculiare esposizione che ci consente di raggiungere la giusta maturazione fenolica, ottenendo struttura e sostanza. Mi appassiona perché è un vino elegante, che si fa voler bene fin dal primo approccio e che trova una conferma meravigliosa all'assaggio, in tutta la sua ricchezza.»

There are two crus at Tenuta Cucco: Cerrati and Bricco Voghera. Same hill, just a short walk from the Castle of Serralunga d’Alba, same w**emaking approach – large 25-hectoliter oak casks – and two distinct exposures: Cerrati faces south-southeast, while Bricco Voghera faces northwest and northeast.

Clara Milani, w**emaker at Tenuta Cucco, shares her perspective on the 2021 vintage of Bricco Voghera: «I like to describe it as a contemporary Barolo: its dual exposure allows us to ensure freshness on the nose, with notes of dog rose, and great harmony on the palate. It is precisely this unique exposure that enables us to achieve optimal phenolic ripeness, giving the w**e structure and substance.
I love it because it’s an elegant w**e—one that wins you over from the very first impression on the nose and delivers a wonderful confirmation on tasting, in all its richness».

CRU CERRATI
Un barolo coraggioso, tannini pronunciati, longevo come non ce ne sono altri: queste le caratteristiche dei Barolo di Serralunga d’Alba. Il nostro cru Cerrati ne è uno dei rappresentanti più autentici.

Ce lo racconta Giovanni Saglietti, w**e tour manager di Tenuta Cucco. “Quando guido una degustazione di Barolo Cerrati sottolineo prima di tutto il vigneto di provenienza: si trova a pochi passi dalla sala degustazione, è tutt’uno con noi, lo abbiamo appena attraversato, abbiamo sfiorato le viti, calpestato il terreno marnoso sotto i nostri piedi.

E poi il terroir: filari esposti a sud a circa 400 di altitudine. Una condizione di allevamento ideale. È questo che lo rende un Barolo così preciso, direi, fatto per le grandi occasioni con quel suo colore rosso granato elegante, il naso ricco e la bocca avvolgente."

Infine Il consiglio di Giovanni: “Dimenticate quanto più possibile la bottiglia in cantina: il suo potenziale di evoluzione non smetterà mai di sorprendere”.

A bold Barolo, pronounced tannins, extraordinary longevity like no other: these are the defining traits of Serralunga d’Alba Barolos, and our Cerrati cru is one of its most authentic representatives.

Giovanni Saglietti, w**e tour manager at Tenuta Cucco, tells us all about it. "When I lead a tasting of Barolo Cerrati, I always highlight the vineyard first: it sits just a few steps from our tasting room, it's truly one with us. We've just walked through it, brushed past the vines, and felt the marly soil under our feet. And then the terroir: south-facing rows at around 400 meters above sea level—an ideal growing condition. That's what makes it such a precise Barolo, made for special occasions, with its elegant garnet red color, rich nose, and enveloping palate."

Giovanni’s advice? "Forget the bottle in your cellar for as long as possible: its potential for evolution will never cease to amaze you."

Ve li racconteremo uno dopo l'altro, ma intanto qui, tutti insieme, i nostri vini base Nebbiolo, compresi i due cru di Tenuta Cucco: Barlo Cerrati e Barolo Bricco Voghera. Spicca, in rosso, il Barolo Vigna Cucco, dai filari più antichi.

Notate qualcosa di particolare? Certo, sono le nuove annate ma nuove sono anche le etichette create da Andrea Castelletti che richiamano l'essenza di questa terra e dei suoi codici più autentici: rigore, grazia unita a equilibrio.
