At the very roots of our project and our new edition crafted for mixology, Gin Venice RE, lies an unbreakable bond with the history of oriental spices. A heritage dating back to the 13th century, when Venetian ships imported the rarest spices from the Levant to the Rialto Market, which were then distributed throughout Europe by ancient apothecaries (Spezieri).
⚓ 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 & 𝘁𝗵𝗲 "𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮 𝗠𝗮̀𝗿"
As shown in the historic engraving by famed geographer Vincenzo Maria Coronelli, Venetian routes traversed what was known until the 18th century as the "Gulf of Venice" (today's Adriatic Sea). To protect commercial convoys and preserve its spice monopoly, the Republic created the Stato da Màr: a maritime defense system recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
🌱 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Drawing from over 40 spices that once arrived in the Lagoon, we created a rigorous selection alongside our Master Distiller and the historic Antica Drogheria Caberlotto. This synergy yielded an exclusive blend, distilled in a copper bain-marie pot still and combined with pure Dolomite spring water.
Key botanicals include:
* 🌶️ Black Pepper: so valuable in the 1400s that it served as currency, providing a subtle spiciness and incense aromas.
* 🌲 Dolomite Juniper: harvested in Cadore, the very forest where Venice sourced timber for its ships.
* 🌱 Cardamom: the queen of oriental spices, bringing elegance and a delicate, fresh balsamic note.
* 🌿 Santonico: the wild sea wormwood from the northern Lagoon, used by apothecaries since the 1500s, which lends unique floral notes.
Misured touches of Lake Garda lemon peels, coriander, and grains of paradise complete this unique aromatic profile.
✨ 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱-𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘁, 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝘅𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆
Crafted with the exact same recipe, from the same historic copper still, and boasting the same excellence crowned with the Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the new Gin Venice RE now stands proudly alongside our classic bottle.
Specially designed for bartenders, premium venues, and Travel Retail, the RE version keeps the heart of our distillate intact while dressing up in an impeccably premium embossed label. A perfect bridge between great Venetian history and contemporary mixology.
