People tell me that my passion for wine shows when I’m speaking 😊 I think these photos from Masterclass “Spain vs Italy” really prove the point 🥳

Waving my arms around, getting a show of hands, engaging with the audience, encouraging people to taste and talk and feel good about sharing their opinions — this is what wine classes are for - getting together and really enjoying the experiences wine can give us ❤️

8 wines tasted blind, across 4 categories — this was so much fun‼️

Cava vs Trento DOC:
Territ Xarel Lo
TrentoDOC Brut Nature

Rioja Viura vs Campania Falanghina
Garnacha Blanco & Viura
Fabula Falerno del Massico

Alicante Rosé vs Puglian Rosé
Rosado Monastrell
Rosato Appassionato Primitivo

Ribera del Duero vs Amarone
Reserva Tempranillo
Amarone Acinatico

With lots of debate, surprise and cheering, I uncovered the wines at the end to reveal a clean sweep for ITALY 🇮🇹 with 3 wins and one tie 🙌🏻🥂🍷🏆

Everyone agreed tasting them all blind made us drop our preconceived perceptions and really pay attention to what we tasted ❤️

I didn’t ask people to guess which was which — too much pressure 😱. Instead, I asked them to vote for which wine they loved more in each category — no wrong answers possible 🎉

Thanks to all the fantastic producers for giving us these remarkably beautiful wines to share and discuss — events like these truly bring people together and make us more curious about all the wines of the world 🌎

Day One and my first of 3 Masterclasses: Chardonnay of Italy 🥂🇮🇹

I love presenting wines like these, that surprise and delight the audience, and leave them wanting more 🥳

It was a joy to show Italys many expressions of — a grape most people think they know. Italy’s winemakers reallt caused a stir today, no one expected to love these wines as much as they did!

(I always knew they would 😉)

Takeaways: place, climate, altitude, winemaking skill 🙌🏻

Cuvée Imperiale Brut brought the elegance of Franciacorta, the bright citrus and zesty expression of the grape and just the finest touch of fresh baked puff pastry 😘

“Sotto Le Stelle” gave us a peek at what happens when ripe grapes in Abruzzo are harvested at night, preserving their tangy fresh tropical notes, a great acidic spine, and a beautifully easy drinking happiness 😊

gave us sophisticated and a gorgeous textural flintiness on the palate, maintaining the clean white peach and mandarin peel while adding a Burgundy-esque level of complexity 😍

was an eye opener from Oltrepo Pavese, with a rich, creamy, yellow peach and vanilla bean note sitting on top of fresh lemon yogurt. Silky in the mouth, not heavy, carefully managed and lifted by a gentle acidic spine.🥰

took us all the way south to Menfi in Sicily, brilliantly blending chalky texture, a whisper of charcoal smoke, a hint of cinnamon toast, fresh apricot purée and a zip of grapefruit zest. Lovely and smooth, with a welcome green olive salinity on the finish. 💕
walch put us back in the high vineyards of Alto Adige in the northern mountains, showing the beauty and structure possible in the famed Castel Ringberg cry vineyard. Luminous and appealing with notes of vanilla extract, star fruit, nespole, dried pineapple and a little touch of crunchy sea salt. Immense potential to age, satiny on the palate. ⭐️

Many thanks to the producers for their trust and support!

This was one of those Masterclasses where no one wanted to leave 🎉

Throw back to the pre-bottle bank trip after another epic season!

Wine Camp rides again, was the theme at my house for a few days, filled with three magical dinners, wonderful wine producers who shared their beautiful wines with me and my colleagues and friends, and a whole lot of bottles to tell the tale ❤️

Lots of love and thanks to:
Gorgeous Francesca and Silvia from .winery who shared brilliant blanc de noir metodo classico 🥂 made with Corvina, and their 3 elegant modern Valpolicella reds 🍷

Wonderful Jole and Enrico from who blew us away with beautiful wines from Treviso, Piemonte, their ethereal Dolcetto, and Barbarescos to die for from cru vineyards, and their brilliant AltaLanga Pas Dosé 🥂

Delightful and Francesco from plus the inimitable and passionate Dott Giuffrida Pucci from with an incredible array of wines from Etna 🌋 including the award winning Amuri di Fimmina e Amuri di Matri, Italian rosé of the year. 🌹🏆

It was a joy hosting so many great friends and colleagues — you know who you are 😉— thank you for the fabulous memories of 3 fantastic nights! 🥳

You think rosés can’t age? Well Etna Rosato 2020 begs to differ!

Luminous coppery rose-gold colour, a nose full of dried peach skin, freshly chopped apricots, soft green sage leaves, a twist of mandarin zest and a little sprinkle of crushed pinked Himalayan sea salt. 💕

💕

One of the most surprising, enlightening, joyful, history/wine/beauty filled days I have experienced in a long while — and that is saying A LOT ‼️‼️

It was my truly heartfelt pleasure to create a day of pure magic for international guests, and I’m giving an extra shout out to the sunshine ☀️

encapsulates a unique urban vineyard within its cloisters, one that has been there for 1000 years. 🙌🏻

Now a collaboration with this utterly indescribable vineyard makes 1107 bottles of tank method sparkling wine from Malvasia and Glera grapes, as would have been planted here in the grandest days of La Serenissima’s watery empire 🥂🥂

This is a case of a picture says it all, stepping from the bustling streets of Venice, back in time to a monastery from the 13th century. Today 6 friars and some helpful students care for this literally divine vineyard and produce a glorious sparkling tribute to urban vines across the centuries.

Another shout out to absolutely fantastic, passionate, knowledgeable guide Manuel 💪

An impossibly hard act to follow? Well, I have to say, ✋🏻 on ❤️ that ** Ristorante Glam at blew me away with its gracious elegance, and stunning food that provoked laughter, curiosity and delight from my guests. Amazing sommelier was the height of welcoming professionalism and it was a treat to work with him on the for the day. I think we did well 😉

Absolutely STUNNING day in the Veneto area of 🥂

After two days of intense storms and hail, with potential damage to the new buds, we we graced with the clearest skies and freshest air Veneto offers only rarely.

is the perfect place to dive deeply into the incredible quality, elegance and diversity thst Glera grapes can create in the best locations and with the most passionate dedication ❤️

Not all Prosecco is created equal, as evidenced by Villa Sandi’s exceptional portfolio of tank method and classic method wines. A Palladian style villa, the Moretti Polegato family’s commitment, and truly unique vineyards with the ideal vocation for these grapes and the wines that end up in your glass.

You want delicate and floral and gently tropical? Asolo.

Prefer more austere, crunchy sea salts, herbs and green pearls? Valdobbiadene Superiore.

Rosé floats your boat? Try the Millesimato Prosecco or the classic method, both of which include Pinot Noir in an elegant antique rose gold color.

The purest version of Glera? Cartizze. The high hills of La Rivetta, in the bright sun, cool wind, steep slopes and rich soils.

Villa Sandi offers modern sparkling wines, alongside rich and nuanced champagne style wines. And don’t forget the traditional still red wines of the area — Merlot and Raboso — that were the background of the region before sparkling wine rose to the forefront of production.

Elegant lunch at Locanda Sandi and an outdoor tasting of Cartizze in the vineyards rounded off a 360* view of one of the area’s most prestigious producers.

Such a thrill and a joy to give a in the glorious setting of the Sala Consiliare at the town hall in gorgeous Asolo. 🥂

I love the opportunity to share some lesser known wines “from the Lake to the Lagoon” in Veneto:
winery Ambizione Pas Dosé Metodo Classico blanc de noir made from classic Valpolicella red grapes 🍾
allegrini Selva del Vescova Lugana from the Peaks and Valleys collection of Villa Della Torre, made with Turbiana grapes ☀️

Vespaiolo white wine made from ancient grapes of Breganza 🐝

Ribele beautifully fruited and delightfully fizzy tart red wine made with Raboso grapes, which have been recognised since Pliny the elder in 78 AD 🍇

Daphne Bardolino, a modern look at a ripe cherry and tiny kick of pepper, chillable red style made with Valpolicella’s classic red grapes 🍷

Carminium Carmenere, gracefully reflecting the traction of this grape in the Veneto region, having made its way here from southwestern France, most likely on the pilgrimage routes 🙌🏻

Malanotte del Piave 2020 was a showstopper, made from Raboso grapes, “the black diamond” of Veneto. Notoriously difficult to work with, but this wine shows the rich, complex, velvety elegance than can be achieved when tannins are extremely well managed in oak for 3 years. 🏆

Torcolato historic sweet wine made from Vespaiolo grapes, whose bunches are strung and twisted (“torcolato”) together before hanging to dry. The surprise of the night for my guests — no one doesn’t live this beautifully balanced example of a northern passito wine ❤️

Federico Latteri presented a masterclass with Mario Paoluzi of , showing 4 vintages each of the Ante Etna Bianco and Aetnaeus Etna Rosso. Vintage variation had a great role to play in these sophisticated and elegant wines.

Enjoying the chance to show off Verona to guests 🇮🇹

The historic center of the city on a clear sunny spring day never disappoints‼️

The church of St. Anastasia, Piazza Erbe, Piazza dei Signori and all the cobbled back streets, wrapped in the bends of the Adige River — history, architecture, art, and culture reallt come together quietly in my lovely home town 😊
