A fun tasting with my daughter, as per whenever she’s home 🥂 Nothing like sipping Chinese wine on my terrace in Valpolicella!

Brought this one back from Shanghai 🇨🇳 — kindly sent to my hitel by wonderful winemaker friend, Judy Chan of Grace Vineyard in Taigu, in Shanxi.

Tasya’s Reserve Chardonnay is named for Judy’s daughter — fun synergies there since we both have daughter who studied at the University of Edinburgh.

Lovely luminous lemon colour, with delicious scents and flavours of preserved lemons, pineapple, acacia, yellow broom flowers, cardamom, white pepper, peach yogurt, nutmeg, freshly sliced warm bread and hazelnut cream. Rich and full and generous on the palate without being cloying, with a brilliant acidity lifting the intensity of the wine. ❤️

is a very exciting world to explore! Can’t wait to go back, share my Italian wine passion, and visit some vineyards this time!!

Some of the wines of summer 🥂😎

Just a couple of shout outs to some bottles that gave me joy 🤩

Bortolomiol | Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG “Senior” Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG such a delicious sparkler, full of zingy lemon, tart grapefruit zest, pretty fresh white daisies, and a crinkle of salt flakes 🍾

Talestri Winery | Emozioni da degustare Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore, yummy ripe blackberries and ripe red cherries, a tickle of pepper, sumptuously rich and fruity, without a huge punch of tannin and alcohol 🍒

San Marzano Wines “Susco” brilliant Susumaniello from Puglia, this lovely wine slips down so gently, full of warm red and blue fruit, violets and lavender, with a whisp of fresh chopped seaside herbs and soft tannin 🍇

San Salvatore 1988 Wines “Trentenare” Fiano from the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Campania. Fresh and bright, white peach, mandarin peel, unripe quince and salty brine, with a touch of chalky texture 🍑

Maculan Wine “Costadolio” rosé, 100% Merlot, the most intriguing attractive luminous coppery color, seductively alluring with apple blossom and orange blossom, tangy unripe peach skin, cranberry and pomegranate. Dry as a bone, very sophisticated 🍊

Nino Negri “Alpi Retiche” Bianco, this is a compelling white wine made from red Nebbiolo grapes, it’s uniquely mysterious and complex, flinty, green apple and white peach purée, bright acidity, with a toasted hazelnut skin 🍏

Casa D’Ambra Biancolella from the beautiful island of Ischia. A wine that magically pairs well with things like asparagus and artichoke, with notes of fresh squeezed lemons, bitter green almond, soft nectarine, green olive water, fluid and so easy to slurp.. bring another bottle! 🍋

“Annibale” dry, minerally, sparkling wine from the Lessini hills in Veneto, made in tank method and so light, fresh, bursting with unripe white peach, unripe golden apple, fresh chopped parsley, this is a bubble for every day, all year round 🥂

Bye bye summer, thanks for the memories ❤️

I’ve been saving this one!

COS Metodo Classico pas Dosé

Frappato 🍇 vinified as a sparkling rosey copper amber wine ❤️ champagne style elegance with Sicilian style flavour and texture 💪

I am a huge Frappato fan in its still red wine form. But I’ve wondered for years why no one was making a sparkling version………and now they are 🥳

Fermented in amphora, matured in cement, then resting 20 months on the fine lees. 🥂🍾

Beautiful luminous colour, compelling nose of bitter orange peel, apricot nectar, golden apple skin, orange blossom, nespole, sage leaves and sea spray. 🍊 🌊

Gorgeous to look at, delicious on the palate, absolutely perfect with homemade pinsa topped with red and green garden pepper, Tropea onion and goat cheese. 🐐

Happy memories of a great visit to COS in southeastern Sicily at Vittoria. This bottle was worth waiting for⭐️⭐️

Summer time, family time, great wine time 🥂🥂

Gambino Vini • Etna Wines Maria Gambino Etna Spumante Metodo Classico Extra Brut 2014 ❤️❤️❤️❤️

In solidarity with all my dear friends and colleagues on during the eruptions and earthquakes 🌋

Gambino’s vineyards are near the Mareneve road, which has been so devastated by the earthquake 😭

I’ve been saving this wine, gifted to me by dear friends enologist Salvatore Rizzuto and Francesco Raciti Gambino 🙏🏻. Tonight is the perfect night — mother and daughter time — “alla nostra” 🥂

Crusty bead, smoke and flint, hot charcoal, mango with a squeeze of lime and a twist of bitter mandarin peel, dusted with gravel and sea salt flakes, wafted through an acacia plantation with a trail of nutmeg in its wake and the merest hint of a freshly struck match. 12 years ob and this wine has the finest, most persistent strands of tiny golden bubbles, rising like the plume of smoke above Etna this summer.

Nerello Mascalese red grapes 🍇 vinified white

Elegant, delicious, succulent, savoury, exquisite: a perfect pairing with our Gorgonzola champagne cream on crackers for a hot summer evening aperitivo. ❤️ Really couldn’t have shared this one with anybody else 😉 And I always love to here my daughters’ tasting notes (thanks for squeeze of lime Liv!) ⭐️

Stay safe Sicily, stay strong Etna, in boca al lupo for the harvest 🤞🏻🙌🏻💪💕

Summertime wine time!😍😎☀️

3 bottles chosen 💯% for their super attractive labels ❤️

Yep, it’s hot 🔥 and my boiling brain went for the pretty

And this is proof of Italy’s fantastic ability to produce delicious wines at prices everyone can afford, and with appealing packaging to boot 🥳🇮🇹

“Cala Forte” Rosé made with Sangiovese and Syrah from Tuscany, 12% abv is light, fruity, flowery and lifted by a nice tangy sour cherry and a pinch of salt 💕

Mack & Schuhle Italia Genevitis Project Vermentino Isola dei Nuraghi IGT Spumante Brut comes from an effort to promote the emotional landscape of Sardegna. Lemons 🍋 sea salt, yellow grapefruit and sushi nori wrap, with lots of fizz 🥂

VILLA CORNIOLE wines Kroz Bianco from Consorzio Vini del Trentino Chardonnay and Muller Thurgau from the Dolomites, white peach, nutmeg, white wisteria flowers, green pear, a bit of textural grip on the palate and a tiny whiff of flint. 🫶🏼

Such great wines, such nice labels.

Do you ever wonder where your wine came from? 🤔

Thanks to this brilliant packaging from Cantina Simoni
we get a map with every box! The Val di Cembra in Trentino comes straight into your house, showing Monte Corona and the Dolomites, with all the terraced vineyards of the Simoni family spread out before your eyes. 🙌🏻

Just in case there was any doubt, the sub title “Vini di Montagna” focuses your mind on the heights where these grapes are grown. ⛰️

I’ve got Simoni’s Kerner in my glass today, from 600 meters above sea level, facing into the Adige River valley. The Simoni logo of an ammonite fossil takes your mind straight back to the sea and ice that covered this region millions of years ago 🌊

Kerner is a cross of Riesling and local grape Schiava, and is named after a German doctor who wrote poems about wine 🫶🏼

This luminous, pale lemon coloured wine has that beautiful, tart, bitter citrus peel acidity that feels restrained, sophisticated and elegant in your mouth 🍋 A delicious note of herbal bath salts 🌿 adds to the freshness of bergamot (think Earl Grey tea), cardamom pod, green pear 🍐, and thick Amalfi lemon pith, all bound together by a textural, chalky grip on the palate. 🥂

Fascinating masterclass at the Chateau d’Aymavilles in Valle d’Aosta. Vini in Vigna event: Seven wines from 2016 🥂🥂

Presented by Alberto Levi President of AIS Valle d’Aosta, and President of Consorzio Vini Valle d'Aosta with all the producers in the room.💪

It was brilliant to see how beautifully these mountain white wines are aging — this is the future of Italian wine 🏔️

A lot of discussion about the challenges facing the vineyards — considering it was 38*C it was not hard to see the difficulties of climate change even in the foothills of the Alps ☀️🥵

Amplifying the message of crisp, mineral, sophisticated, elegant, intetesting white wines and their potential to age so well is important work — more on this topic 🔜

Old favourites are favourites for a reason! 🥂

Cantine Lunae Etichetta Nera (Black Label) Colli di Luni DOC Vermentino 2021 from Liguria ❤️

5 years of bottle age has only helped to bring out the chalky texture and benzine notes of this lovely pale golden Vermentino, rich with lashings of sea salty brine 🌊 , preserved Moroccan lemons 🍋 , dark green chlorophyll-filled beach plants, apricot yogurt and yellow grapefruit zest 🍊

Delicious 😋

Ageing like the star that it is ⭐

Perfect for 35*C sauna that is my terrace in Valpolicella this summer 🥵

In case nobody noticed, it’s HOT 🔥 🥵

But sometimes I still crave that extra oomph of fruit that only a red wine can bring 🍷

these reds we can serve slightly cool (don’t ask me about ice cubes — I put my bottles in the fridge!) 🥶

Makes a great change from high acid whites and rosés that have been getting me through this inferno of a summer 😅

GAIERHOF Novello di Teroldego, Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2025 is a delicious purpley mouthful of crunchy blueberries, black currants and slightly unripe blackberries freshly stolen from somebody’s hedge on a morning hike in Trentino. Fruity, tart, with just the merest hint of thyme and a whisper of a powdery lavender tannin, this is a lovely go to for bbq nights on the hottest day of the summer ❤️
