We have a special pop up bakery sale this morning by Lucie's Boulanger!

Due to weather canceling today's market, Lucie is here at SCOOP The Sustainable Cooperative selling her French bread and pastries made from flour by Le Tacheron Farm and organic ingredients. We are happy to see her back in the kitchen!

ELECTION SPECIAL - making sure that food is part of the debate

We asked all candidates four questions relating to food systems and supply chains in Jersey.

Their responses can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Dw5D2tfBl5n-Oh3AMb4WTIjw39uGdGAKuML7895i7jk/

Our questions:

1. What does a sustainable food system mean to you and how would this benefit the island of Jersey and its inhabitants? What elements of this are you most passionate about?

2. How can your definition of a sustainable food system be supported in Jersey by the Government? If you had to choose something that would have the biggest positive impact in creating a resilient healthy food system that serves our community, what would that be?

3. Much has been done to increase support for the rural economy over the last six years. Where do you see that more work needs to be done and what do you propose to address these issues?

4. What examples of policy or practice from other jurisdictions do you view as inspirational and aspirational for Jersey?

The way we shape our food system and the Government's role in this has long term implications on the future health of our island and those that live here. We hope that we have helped set an Agenda for the coming term.

FRIDAY FOOD

Friday Food is back! Anne and Andre are offering local Beef/Pork Meatballs or Vegan Herby Lentil Balls, both served in a rich tomato sauce and a portion of homemade fresh tagliatelle. The meat option comes with a topping of Parmesan and the vegan version has a creamy cashew cheese. Both cost £15 per person. A quick and delicious meal!

Allergens - Meatballs: Celery, wheat, rye, egg, milk / Lentil Balls: Celery, cashews, almonds / Pasta: Wheat, egg

Add a fresh cucumber and lettuce side salad, with edible flowers and a rosemary vinaigrette dressing. £5. Allergens: May contain mustard.

Also on the menu is a limited amount of caponata, which can be served with pasta or some lovely sourdough from Dough Rye Me. This authentic caponata is somewhere between a stew and a salad. Sweet and sour aubergines mix with salty olives, capers and tangy tomatoes. Enjoy at room temperature with crusty breads, or use as a rich pasta sauce. £6.50 (ca. 300g portion). Freezes well.

Please place your orders in the comments below by Wednesday evening. Collection is on Friday from 3pm. There will be a returnable deposit for any SCOOP LOOP Tiffins used to package your meals.

Interested in finding out more about ghee?

Learn how to make and use ghee on the 6th June with Neha Bisht. You will make the ghee and then create two authentic Indian recipes. As always you'll get lots of tasty food in the process, as well as some ghee to take home

As well as imparting flavour, used in moderation ghee can aid digestion and is a valuable source of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K).
