Wet litter is one of the primary causes of ammonia emissions. Similar to humans, chickens are also sensitive to the odour. 🐔

Prolonged exposure to high levels of ammonia can cause blindness in birds, damaging the cornea in the eye.

Good litter management and proper ventilation can minimize wet litter in your coop.

Ques:

My hens are eating the eggs, can u say why and what can be done about it?

Ans:

Hens will peck at the eggs when they are left around too long and if they have managed to start eating them, that problem will be ongoing.

Our recommendation is to remove eggs at least twice daily or more if time allows. This is a behavioural problem and does not mean the birds are sick.
