About once a week these days somebody asks me what to do about hornets. This is what the bees did about a hornet that got too close to the wrong hive

The honey 🍯 is here! It took a little longer this year. The very dry year we have had has forced the bees 🐝 to produce honey with less water. You will have to see if you taste a difference. But it’s still the chemical free honey you all have loved the past few years. Treatment free beehives for that perfect, truly all-natural sweetness!

While celebrating our anniversary we noticed some Caribbean honeybees working some coconut blooms here in Jamaica!

On Good Friday Andrew F. Heltsley helped me with performing my first colony cutout. Some bees had moved into an abandoned shed about 2000 feet from my bee yard. It was too close to move the bees to my apiary so Andrew added them to his bee yard which is about 3.6 miles away as the bee fly's. It was cool to see what a feral honeybee colony looked like inside. This video is about 12 minutes long but shows a lot of the interesting process of moving them, with a glimpse of the queen at the end...

Every year it seems like warm spells followed by late frosts will ruin the blueberry crop. My wife laughs at me coming in all depressed like Eeyore and announcing "They're dead". But then without fail it seems they recover and the bees work hard like clockwork to pollinate them. The spring explosion every year is a good reminder of the One who is in the business of turning death into life. I took this shot of one of them working on Good Friday morning. Happy Easter y'all!.

I had some help in the bee yard today. My nephew Kellen Flanders captured this video of one of our queen bees looking for a place to lay some eggs.

It’s interesting that once you become a beekeeper, dandelions become wildflowers instead of weeds.

I found a photogenic little honeybee on the purple dead nettle that emerges in late winter. Spring is coming!
