Tucked into the hills of Yufuin, Kai brought together everything we love about a proper ryokan stay: hot springs, quiet rainy mornings, and food that turns every meal into an event.
We started the day with a little adventure exploring the area, taking in the summer scenery, then joined Kai’s straw-twining activity, weaving our own little amulets by hand before heading back for a full Kaiseki experience. Course after course of small, seasonal, beautifully plated dishes made the whole night feel like a slow, delicious event.
Mornings came with rain, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying a tradition Japanese-style breakfast.
And to close it all out, I ended in the onsen, before heading to the lounge for the best seat in the house. Cold tea, popsicles, and a view of the rice terraces that somehow looked even better in the rain. 🌧️🌾
