Did you know? In Japan, handing money directly to a cashier is considered rude!
Instead, you'll see a small tray at every register — conbini, supermarket, even bakeries. That's the cash tray. Just place your money on it.
Staff will place your change, coins, and receipt back on the same tray. Always double-check you took everything!
It's one of those small cultural differences that makes a big impression. Use the tray, bow slightly, and say "Arigatou gozaimasu!"
Save this post for your trip — you'll use this every day!
