NOGUCHI -The God of Sake Brewing-

For now, it seems only available on Amazon Japan. While I'm not a huge fan of Noguchi, I felt it was a good documentary film for learning about sake brewing. Looking forward to its release in other countries.

Every April, when I have a break from work, I visit a nearby sake brewery. This time, I went to Ota Shuzo(Brewery), which brews Dokan in the ancient inn town of Kusatsu in Shiga Prefecture.

I did not tour the brewery, but simply visited the area, talked with the brewery staff at the sales counter, and bought some sake to take home. Even so, the people at the brewery were very hospitable and taught us a lot about sake brewing. Nowadays, the distribution of rice in Japan is decreasing and the price of rice is skyrocketing. However, it is not only rice that is declining in distribution, but sake rice is also in the same situation. I was struck by their efforts to maintain the price of sake rice on this trip.

It is September and the heat has finally eased up in Japan, but it is still the season for a cold beer to be the first drink. Once the beer has filled your stomach, it's time for sake. I asked them to heat up the sake. In the lower right of the photo is a special pot for heating sake.

I accompanied a friend from Germany to visit Daimon brewery in Osaka. The owner himself gave us an introduction of the brewery, and then we enjoyed sake and food pairing at the restaurant attached to the brewery.
