しかし畑では食肉目による、熟れてきたシャルドネ が被害を受けた模様です。
足跡は長い爪痕はないので、アライグマではないし、タにしては足跡が違うし、器用なところや葡萄の皮を綺麗に吐き出しているのを見るとハクビシン…しかも足跡も5本の指でした。
丁寧に皮を吐き出して食べているのも特徴ですね。

…箱罠の…出番でしょうか？

Hi, it’s another episode of “Who’s the guilty dog?” — this time, someone has pulled all the stuffing out of a cushion.

But out in the vineyard, it looks like our ripening Chardonnay has fallen victim to a different member of the order Carnivora.

The tracks don’t show the long claw marks we’d expect from a raccoon, and they don’t look quite right for a raccoon dog either. Judging by how dexterously the grapes were eaten — with the skins neatly spat out — our prime suspect is a masked palm civet. And sure enough, the footprints had five toes.

葡萄もだんだんとマダム・カールのようにムッチムチの豊満なボディなのが出てきました。

まだ気は抜けないのですが、収穫が今までにない程に大忙しになる見込みです！

…ということで、暑くならない早朝6時半ぐらいから収穫スタートして、お昼には撤収、というスケジュールで、フラッときてくださる方は是非DMお待ちしてます！

The grapes are starting to plump up too, with some developing beautifully full, voluptuous figures just like Madame Karl.

We still can’t let our guard down just yet, but it looks like this year’s harvest is going to be busier than ever before!

So, we’re planning to start harvesting at around 6:30 a.m., before it gets too hot, and wrap things up by lunchtime.

Hi, ばーちゃんことバーディです。もう狩猟登録始まりましたね。
さて葡萄色エステイトでは着々と収穫準備が進んでおります。
先日の台風の前にレインカットの設置、バードネット掛け、バリカンでの摘芯、収穫箱の洗浄など色々と行いました。

CEOが雨の中トラクターのバリカンを行って、こちらに気がついて
「先に事務所に戻って」とゼスチャーしていますね。
これが水も滴るイイ男なのでしょう。

だんだんとヴェレゾン(色がつくこと)されている葡萄を見ると、もうすぐ収穫時期だなぁ、もう一年経ったのか…って思っちゃいますね。

たまにレインカットやバードネットの中にトラップされている蝶やカマキリをレスキューしたりしていますが、コウモリガな幼虫などの害虫は容赦なくやっつけてます。

Hi, it’s Birdie, aka Grandma. Hunting registration season has already begun!

Meanwhile, harvest preparations are steadily underway at Ebiiro Estate.

Before the recent typhoon arrived, we were busy installing rain covers, putting up bird nets, trimming the vines with the mechanical trimmer, washing harvest crates, and getting everything else ready for the season ahead.

The CEO was out there in the rain operating the tractor-mounted trimmer when he noticed me and gestured, “Go back to the office first.”

I guess this is what they mean by a good-looking man dripping wet.

As the grapes gradually go through veraison and start changing color, you can really feel harvest season approaching. It also makes me think, “Wow, has another whole year already gone by?”

Every now and then, we rescue butterflies and praying mantises that accidentally get trapped inside the rain covers or bird nets.

Pests such as carpenter moth larvae, however, receive no such mercy.

メイちゃんはチルちゃんとお父さんが同じなのでチルちゃんと顔がそっくり。とてもフレンドリーで可愛かった〜
赤ちゃん特有の匂いに癒されてきました。

チルちゃんのお宅は本当に素敵で、お庭も薪棚とミモザの木やかわいいお花がそこここに。
おべもお庭で機嫌よく遊んでました。オモチャも沢山！
いつもニコニコしててかわいいおべなのに…せめて赤ちゃんのメイちゃんと仲良く遊んで欲しかったよ。
親の心子知らず。

Hi, this is Beth. I spent the morning working in the vineyard, then went to visit May-chan.
(I’ve added a photo at the end of the wildly overgrown Yama Sauvignon shoots, which are growing like crazy.)

From Beth’s point of view, May-chan may have looked more like something to hunt than a new friend. Even when I was holding the baby, Beth showed absolutely no jealousy. Instead, she even went into hunting stance around Chill-chan. Why, Beth… why?

May-chan and Chill-chan have the same father, so they look incredibly alike. She was so friendly and adorable, and that special baby smell was wonderfully soothing.

Chill-chan’s home is absolutely lovely too. The garden has a beautiful firewood rack, a mimosa tree, and cute flowers everywhere. Beth was perfectly happy playing in the garden as well, especially with all the toys!

Beth is usually such a cheerful, smiley girl… I really hoped she would at least play nicely with baby May-chan.

Parents worry, children have no idea. 😂

カールは24キロ超したのでシャワーまで引きずるのが大義です。

さて2枚目は台木から若木が出て来てしまった図です。
台木(だいぎ) は病気に強い種類を。
それに接木(せつぎ) をするのは果実が美味しい品種を。

そろそろ結実した葡萄が育ってくるので、レインカットをセットしています。
新しいビニールをかけるのは楽しい。

Hi! We’re being very good dogs while waiting for the CEO to hand out our treats. 🐾

Karl has now passed 24 kg (53 lbs), so dragging him into the shower has become quite the workout! 😂

In the second photo, you can see a shoot growing from the rootstock.

In viticulture, the rootstock is chosen for its resistance to diseases and pests, while the scion that is grafted onto it is selected for producing delicious fruit.

Our grape clusters will soon begin to develop, so we’re now setting up the rain covers to protect them. Putting up fresh plastic sheets is always one of the most satisfying jobs in the vineyard.

Volunteers are welcome all year round! 🤗🍇🍷

さて収穫のタイミングが近づいてきたので、ドラフトとしてチャッピーに犬が登場するポスターを作ってと、雑なプロンプトを出したら、どこの誰かも分からない犬達が登場しまくって朝から大笑い。

そんな中畑でも1人でパーティしてる子がいました。

Rocco Rouge 2025 (750ml)

山ソーヴィニヨン42%、タナ27%、
シラー/ピノタージュ/カベルネ・ソーヴィニヨン各9%、
メルロー/カベルネ・フラン各2%

Alc. 10.5%

全て除梗した7種の果実を混醸して樹脂タンクで発酵後、オークチップを2週間程度漬け込み(Oak Chip Soaked)、澱引きのみで無濾過で壜詰めしました。
澄んだ明るいやや濃いめのルビー色の赤スティルワインです。木イチゴやクランベリーの赤い果実にうっすらと樽を感じさせる香りで、程よい酸味と穏やかなタンニンと低めのアルコールにより、飲みやすいライトな味わいです。
軽めのお肉料理のみならず、煮物や焼物などの和食系のお食事とも合わせてお楽しみください。

Rocco Rouge 2025 (750ml)

* Yama Sauvignon 42%
* Tannat 27%
* Syrah 9%
* Pinotage 9%
* Cabernet Sauvignon 9%
* Merlot 2%
* Cabernet Franc 2%

Alc. 10.5%

All seven grape varieties were destemmed, co-fermented in a resin tank, then gently infused with oak chips for about two weeks (Oak Chip Soaked). The wine was racked and bottled unfiltered to preserve its character.

It displays a bright, slightly deep ruby color with aromas of raspberry and cranberry, complemented by a subtle touch of oak. Bright acidity, gentle tannins, and moderate alcohol create a smooth, approachable red that’s easy to enjoy.

While it pairs beautifully with lighter meat dishes, it’s equally at home alongside Japanese cuisine such as simmered dishes, grilled foods, and other comforting home-style meals.
