Final day in Seoul!

Initially I wasn’t gonna post this, but yolo 💀

Like everyday in Seoul, I got up and got ready before getting a fulfilling breakfast of rice, sautéed beef, quail eggs, various Banchans such as tteokbokki and dress salad. Paired it with fruit, toast and coffee.

I was thinking about what to do to kill time before my flight in the evening, but I genuinely didn’t want to do anything that required me to carry all my bags. So I just chilled in the hotel’s lobby and did some editing (while also reading fanfiction) until it was time to catch the airport shuttle to Incheon International Airport.

It was still a bit early to check in, so I walked around and managed to get a magnet for my growing collection 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 maybe I’ll show you some time? Anyway by the time I did check in, it was time to get a late lunch of Shake Shack (which I haven’t eaten in over seven years). They had a beef bulgogi burger that consisted of their special sauce, caramelized onions and two very beefy patties… I forgot how incredible shake shack is!

Once I was satisfied, it was time to head to my gate via the shuttle train to take the flight to Fukuoka before the 2+ hour long bus ride back to Sasebo City.

Until my next trip! 💖

It’s the second full day of Seoul!

The day started off as usual with a hearty breakfast at the hotel. I had steamed rice with sautéed beef, banchans, buttery toast and some coffee. Officially ready for a day of adventure. 🙂‍↕️

Starting with a visit to Gangnam city to visit the ever so loving Gangnam style statue to commemorate PSY for bringing K-Pop music globally! So i had to do the dance for the culture, no matter how cringe it looked. There was a large mall nearby, so we walked through looking for souvenirs and other things. Saw that they had mangoes selling for some ridiculous prices (all kind of ¥5000 and up, or about $200+TTD).

We did find a frozen yogurt spot and took a short break there. I got a mango crunch one and Chantal got a biscoff. So delicious and perfect for the gradually increasing hot weather. We were trying to find an aquarium but ended up finding Bongeunsa Temple 대한불교조계종 봉은사 instead. Super pretty and packed with rich history and culture. However, after being bombarded with temples in Thailand, I didn’t want to stick around long.

So I took the bus for the one place I really wanted togo… The Korean Manhwa Museum! This was only 5000 won to enter and with levels of full on explanation of the origins of manhwa, webtoons and more! Highly recommend you go if you’re in Seoul and love manhwa! There’s even a cultural park behind to explore.

By the time I was finished, I was starving so I went back to Incheon to get some Indian food since I was craving it. However, my card wasn’t compatible with their machine for some reason. So I used cash to get some naan and ate that with some leftover chicken I had back home. Not the most ideal way to end the night, but at least my day was adventurous. Stay tuned for the third day!

So it’s time to talk about the first full day at Seoul!

The day starts with the most important meal of the day: breakfast! This hotel stay included it, so we went there and was pleased with the selections they had: quail eggs, sausages, various banchans with or without meat, steamed rice, soups and of course, coffee. Ensuring we were fully nourished by the delicious options was a must.

After breakfast, we got ready for our day and set off in our separate ways. I first headed to the Pokémon underground pop-up so that I can get my waiting queue ticket to revisit, since it takes a long time as it’s a very popular spot in Seoul. Next, I went to the spot I was looking for the most, the K-medic center.

This center has a museum that showcase the rich history of Korean medicine: from when it all began to the herbs that are still used to this day. That aspect of the museum is free for everyone to watch. However, the museum also offers massages and foot soaks which has a cost.

For the foot soaks, it costs 6000 won for two persons (or 5000 won for one person) and includes a herbal salt that you pour into hot water to soak your feet for about half an hour. With relaxing music and a picturesque view, it definitely is a relaxing experience.

The massages are done by machinery and includes hand, feet and full body. This also costs 6000 won. We did the hands and feet first, where we were given a soothing ointment to rub on the target spots first, then inserted into the machines for about half an hour. The full body massages just needed us to wear an eye shield and lie on a bed that has multiple settings to relax your back. This took about 45 minutes. I felt like a new person after this experience.

The museum also had the option to dress up as Korean doctors but I skipped that because of time. I walked through the nearby cultural market to see what the vendors had to sell, but nothing really intrigued me. I then took the bus to the next location: Seoul garden.

It’s Pokémon’s 30th anniversary, so there’s a secret garden within the space for everyone to view. However like the underground spot, there’s a very long queue. I didn’t bother to be a part of that, so I went to the various food stalls in the park and got me a churro with chocolate ice cream. Hit the vital spots of craving and nourishment, since I was beginning to feel a bit peckish.

Afterwards, I took the bus back to the Pokémon underground popup to see what’s the fuss. Honestly, they just had merch, a large Pokémon card collection, consoles to compete games with your friends, a beautiful garden filled with super cute Pokémon’s and a themed cafe. Pretty cool honestly but nothing worth fully hyping for.

Finally, I took the train back to the hotel. By that point, I was starving but thankfully there’s a Vietnamese restaurant right outside the hotel. I got Bun Bo Hue instead of the usual Pho since it looked very interesting and seemed to have different cuts of meat. Excellent choice!

The broth was light yet flavorful, the meats and noodles were perfectly cooked with the right amount of chew and thickness and the veggies were fresh. Adding sriracha and Hosein sauces helped a lot too! The table also had complimentary iced tea, which complimented the hot soup. Excellent choice to end the first full day of Seoul. Can’t wait for day two!

Busan was nice, but now it’s time for what I’m really looking forward for on this trip… Seoul!

The day started with heading to Busan Station to get our pre-booked bullet train to Seoul Station that leaves at 9:26 am. We stopped by one of the food spots within the station to get something quick to eat since the hotel we stayed at didn’t include breakfast with our purchase.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I got an okinawian salted caramel late which was EXTREMELY salty that I didn’t taste a single drop of caramel. The pesto and veggie flatbread had no flavour whatsoever and was a bit too soggy from being reheated. Never again.

The train ride was roughly two hours long to Seoul Station. We were staying in Incheon so we took a local train there which was another two hours. Therefore by the time we got there, we were STARVING! There was a KBBQ spot right as we left the train which we immediately gravitated towards. 10/10/10! Excellent quality beef, the banchans were all delicious and unlimited, and exceptional service.

Until we saw the bill and realized that this entire experience was almost 200K Won or roughly 10K yen each (converted to Trini currency, it was roughly $500TTD each). We got complimentary strawberry popsicles which tasted really good 😊 so alls forgiven? But now the budget got tighter loool.

We stayed at Toyoko (or is it Tokoyo?) hotel, a Japanese-owned spot that specializes in accommodating comfort with exceptional service. I took a nice soak in the tub while Chantal explored around the area, before going myself to explore and see what’s around.

There’s a Cultural Village with many shops and restaurants around. By then, I was hungry again so I stopped to get some bibim-naengmyeon: 비빔냉면, Korean icy cold soba noodles served with a spicy gochughan paste, cucumbers and a boiled egg. I got a side of seared beef as well. Perfect dish to beat the heat in the summer, honestly. And a perfect dish to start the first night in Seoul.

Stay tuned to hear more about my Seoul adventures!
