Summer is the season to wear a yukata and head out to a fun day in the city or to a summer festival. Compared to a kimono, which is usually an intricate piece of formalwear made from expensive fabric, yukata is a more simple and casual clothing piece. Traditionally used on the way to a bath house or while doing everyday tasks, they are usually made from cotton or linen.

Nowadays yukata dates are a summer time favourite in Japan. Modern yukatas come in many colours and patterns, and people are constantly coming up with fun ways to make their yukata outfit even prettier. It is common to see friend groups as well as couples wearing yukata together in the summer. Be it to a fireworks festival, a matsuri, or just a fun day out, wearing a yukata is a great way to make the summer days feel even more special.

These two women beautifully dressed in yukata came to visit our cafe earlier in the summer. They are a perfect example of how elegantly people wear their yukatas, and how they use the colours and accessories to show their personality.
