Akihiro Eguchi was drawn to bartending by the craft itself, training for five years at a long-established bar in Yokohama before his journey brought him to Singapore.

Now Bar Program Director at Jigger & Pony, he reflects on a career shaped by discipline, respect for tradition, and a belief that growth never truly ends.

He shares why working with NIKKA WHISKY aligns with that mindset. Each expression has its own character, and cocktails should be built to respect it.

Shimenawa is a traditional Japanese ritual rope. At Nikka, it reflects Masataka Taketsuru’s roots in a family of sake brewers. Each year, the shimenawa is tied with a wish for the coming whisky to find its natural balance, and for the safety of all who pass through it. A quiet gesture of respect, it marks renewal, protection, and a pause before what comes next.
