Track Profit, Not Just Production– A Simple Guide for Poultry Farmers

🥚 1. Know Your Cost Per Egg

Add all costs:
Feed, medicine, vaccines, labor, electricity, transport, packaging.
Count all eggs produced in the same period (e.g. monthly or per flock).

Use this formula:
Cost per egg = Total expenses ÷ Total number of eggs

✅ Example:
If your total costs are KSh 120,000 and you produce 50,000 eggs:
Cost per egg = KSh 2.40

📦 2. Match Daily Production With Sales

What to do:
Record eggs collected each day (by shed if possible).
Record sales: how many trays sold, price, and buyer.

Compare daily:
Eggs collected vs. eggs sold
Cracks or losses
Leftover trays in storage

✅ Tip: If 120 trays were collected but only 80 sold, find out where the 40 went.

📉 3. Monitor Feed & Mortality Early

Track daily feed per flock – any rise may signal wastage or underfeeding.
Log deaths immediately – even slow increases impact your profit.
Compare feed used vs. egg output regularly.

✅ Tip: A small feed issue today can become a major loss in two weeks. Stay alert.

💡 Final Note

Farming success isn’t just about how many eggs you produce —
It’s about how clearly you see the numbers behind them.
