POTATO VINES INTO SILAGE

Chinese researchers have developed an efficient potato vine silage technology that converts potato crop residues into high-quality livestock feed. The technology was created by specialists from Qinghai Provincial Forage Technology Extension Station and the Qinghai Agricultural Waste Utilization Platform following three years of field research.

Qinghai Province grows potatoes on about 66.7 thousand hectares annually, generating more than 1 million tonnes of fresh potato vines. However, this biomass has long remained underutilized due to its high solanine content, a natural toxin that is harmful to livestock. At the same time, the region faces a chronic feed shortage and relies on costly feed shipments from other provinces.

The new technology uses specialized microbial inoculants to accelerate the breakdown of solanine while carefully controlling moisture content and compaction during the ensiling process. Researchers also recommend mixing potato vines with straw from other crops to improve nutritional balance and produce higher-quality silage.

During the trials, scientists selected two bacterial strains capable of performing efficiently under the cold conditions of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The anaerobic fermentation process reduced solanine levels by more than 70%, lowering concentrations to 2.34–6.69 mg/kg, well within China’s feed safety standards.

A 90-day sheep feeding trial conducted in 2025 confirmed the effectiveness of the technology. Farmers reported that livestock readily consumed the silage, with no signs of poisoning, diarrhea, loss of appetite, or other adverse effects. In addition, production costs were more than twice as low as those of conventional corn silage.

Beyond the economic benefits, the technology also offers significant environmental advantages. It eliminates the need to burn or discard potato vines, reduces agricultural waste, and supports a circular farming system that links potato production, silage making, livestock farming, and the return of organic manure to fields, improving the overall sustainability of agricultural production

OPPORTUNITY IN CRISIS🤞

Don't loose out completely..think 🤔

A monster elnino is coming, it will cause heavy catastrophic flooding rains from October to January and then from march to may.
To begin with green leafy vegetables will be in plenty and prices will stay down from October all the way to may. Terere will grow wild and every where. Cabbages, makes, spinach, managu will have a flood of relentless supply with little to no demand and will be bought for a song.

On the other extreme prices of tomatoes and to some extent waru or potato will rise up to the stratosphere as twin problems of waterlogged fields and spread of fungal diseases due to relentless rains decimate entire fields. Planting waru and nyanya in flood prone farms will lead to high blood pressure or even stroke

Beans planted at the beginning of the rainy season will yield zero as heavy rains and fungal diseases devastate entire fields. The wise thing with beans is to wait out heavy October and November rains and plant in December, Narok and Kajiado farmers take note.

There will be three star performing crops, the first is fruit trees. If you have ever wanted to plant fruit trees or coffee plant in early October, uptake will be 100%.

The second star performing crop will be maize, maize planted early under irrigation, nursery pr trays will be excellent. Maize planted before onset of rain may also do well. In the demo farm will overdo ourselves, we will plant in high density under irrigation upto 4 million maize plants between September 5th and September 15th upto 100 acres. If we are successful we will put up such high crop production such that there will be no need to plant maize in la, nina years in the next 3 years. We are expecting upto 1200mm of rain from October to January in Mwea demo farm. With such rain, early Planting, use of multivalue organic foliar and soil and soil conditioner a single maize plant will produce at least two large cobs when shelled will give a kg of dry maize. Strategy plant two big crops on or before September 15th and February 15th next year, harvest and store upto 8 million kgs in two season. This will act as raw materials for making our concentrate and broken maize for making chicken and cattle feeds. Using this strategy we work with climate and weather and not against it.

The last batch of people who will make money from super elnino are wheat farmers, russian
, ukrainian and Australian wheat will perform very poorly due to monster elnino drought. Wheat in Nakuru, Laikipia, meru and Narok will mint very many millionaires especially those using multivalue organic. Very high prices due to international shortage and high production locally due to heavy elnino rains will make for profitable local farmers. Mkiomoka Mtume kakitu.

Haya basi Our concentrate and broken maize are ready for picking in Nairobi 50kgs broken maize is Kshs 3000 20 liters chicken concentrate is Kshs 3500 20 liters cattle concentrate is Kshs 3000 pay to 0722370092.

Hapa tunaweka wakulima kwa njia ya pesa . Habari ndio hiyo. Hii ni wakati wa kuomoka.
