Makueni and soon Kenya could become a California. Pixie oranges has become a phenomena with everyone growing the fruit. Perhaps we become an exporter
Long before Southern California became a landscape of freeways and subdivisions, enormous stretches of the region were covered with citrus groves.
During the late 1800s and early 1900s, oranges became one of California’s signature products. Packing houses stood beside railroad lines, where workers washed, graded, wrapped, and packed fruit into wooden crates before refrigerated railcars carried it to markets thousands of miles away.
The industry helped support entire communities—from growers and pickers to packing-house workers, crate makers, railroad crews, and local merchants.
Many neighborhoods that are densely developed today were once surrounded by rows of orange and lemon trees.
It was an Old California landscape that smelled like citrus blossoms—and helped sell the California dream to the rest of America.
