Githurai Market Traders Raise Their Voice

All Githurai Market traders convened today to deliberate on concerns surrounding the reported proposal by the County Department of Trade to demolish the perimeter wall surrounding Githurai New Modern Market and replace it with container shops.

The traders are calling for transparency, proper consultation and meaningful public participation before any action is taken that may affect their businesses and livelihoods.

Sammy Kamunge, an incoming 2027 Mwiki Ward MCA aspirant, joined the meeting, listened to the traders and addressed the gathering on the concerns raised.

As the 2027 political conversation takes shape, the message is clear: development must be people-centred, accountable and inclusive.

The traders deserve a voice in decisions affecting their market and livelihoods.

All Githurai Market traders have held a meeting to express their concerns over a reported plan by the County Department of Trade to demolish the perimeter wall surrounding Githurai New Modern Market and replace it with container shops without prior consultation or consent from the traders.
