Cutting cane before it is ready might seem like a practical decision in the moment. But immature cane carries lower sucrose content, which means lower extraction at the mill and a lower return for the farmer. The short-term gain is rarely worth the long-term cost.
At Transmara Sugar Company, our agronomy team tests sucrose levels in the field before any cane is cut. We work closely with our outgrower farmers to identify the right harvest window for each block of cane; not when it looks ready, but when the numbers confirm it is.
