Happy Mazingira Day! πŸŒπŸ’šπŸŒ±

Earth gives us so much, and all it asks is that we take care of it. The least we can do is keep our home clean before it starts charging us rent. πŸ˜‚πŸŒΏ

Let’s plant, protect, reduce waste, and make greener choices every day, not just today.

From all of us at ClimateLensAfrica, happy Mazingira Day! πŸŒπŸ’š

🌱 Why do trees matter?

During a Community Service Project at Runyu Primary School, 100 trees were planted, including mango trees, as a small but meaningful step towards a greener future.

But beyond the numbers and the tree planting, one student shared a message that deserves to be heard.

Trees give us clean air, provide shade and food, protect our soil, support biodiversity, and can even become a source of income for families and communities. 🌳

Most importantly, trees connect generations. The trees we plant and protect today may be the ones providing shade, food and a healthier environment for children who come after us.

Her message is simple: we should plant and protect trees because they benefit both us and future generations.

This is what climate action can look like β€” starting in our schools, communities and everyday lives.

🌱 Climate change is challenging farmers, but innovation is giving us hope.

Egerton University’s Agro-Science Park has developed climate-smart seed varieties designed to withstand drought, diseases, rising temperatures and unpredictable rainfall.

From beans and cassava to sorghum, groundnuts, pigeon peas and chickpeas, these innovations could help farmers protect their yields and strengthen food security.

What excites me most is that some of these seeds are already reaching farmers in Nakuru, Laikipia, Baringo and Elgeyo Marakwet.

Sometimes, climate action starts with something as small as a seed. 🌱

🌍 Day 2: Our Africa, Our Future.

Another day of learning, reflection, and meaningful conversations on climate governance, climate justice, policy implementation, and the role we all have in shaping a more resilient Africa.

The biggest takeaway? Africa’s future cannot be built on promises alone. We need action, accountability, inclusive policies, and communities at the centre of the solutions.

Here’s a glimpse of what we learnt on Day 2 of the Climate Governance and Diplomacy Academy. 🌱🌍
