Authentic Peshawari Namkeen Gosht Recipe
Peshawari Namkeen Gosht is a classic dish from the city of Peshawar, known for its rich culinary heritage. Unlike heavily spiced curries, this dish is beautifully simple and minimalistic, focusing on the natural flavor of meat—usually lamb or mutton.
The word “Namkeen” means salty, and true to its name, the recipe uses only a few ingredients such as:
Salt
Meat (with bone for extra flavor)
Animal fat or oil
Optional garlic and black pepper
What makes this dish special is its slow cooking method, often prepared in a traditional karahi or even in a sealed pot (called “dampukht” style), allowing the meat to cook in its own juices. This creates a tender, juicy, and deeply flavorful result without the need for heavy spices.
