Beetroot are delicious raw, and they are pretty good looking, but why so messy? 😍

Beets are packed with essential vitamins and minerals, and a good sources of fiber, folate (vitamin B9), manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C. Many of these benefits are due to their high content of inorganic nitrates.

Did you know, that bananas can boost your energy levels and reduce hunger pangs? They are a great source of potassium and high in fiber content. It's one of the best fruits to eat first thing in the morning because it's easy to digest. 🍌

Some points to remember while buying them are:
• If you are buying a dozen, make sure you pick slightly firm bananas so that they last you at least 4-5 days without spoiling
• Bananas tend to ripe really quickly, which is why after a while the peels turn black while the flesh becomes gooey. A smart thing to do would be to buy in smaller quantities and enjoy them fresh
• Look for fruits without any blemishes or squishy spots
• Do not store them in the refrigerator

We are a meat-loving nation (that's so Kenyan), aight?
Originally, male hunters cooked game meat over a fire while they were on expeditions. They enjoyed it so much that the practice was brought back to the home. Today, any gathering is an excuse for eating nyama choma - roast goat meat is served up as a kind of social lubricant, often aided by copious amounts of not fruit juice.

Uuuuh... Kenya's middle class is increasingly abandoning traditional, healthy foods for more western tastes that are unhealthy and leading to an increase in lifestyle diseases - little do they know that this increases their chance of getting high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes, and heart diseases insignificantly.

Moderating the amount to only essential dietary limits will do anyone some good. We could also consider alternate sources of proteins and vitamins. White meat, like fish for example, is a healthier option, as are plant proteins that include nuts and legumes. Make deliberate efforts to give up your choma now and again, and order a healthier alternative.
