Couldn’t say it any better!
By now you must have known I live on the slopes of Mount Kenya ,Mwea to be precise. This is the heart of rice farming in kenya, a place with very fertile land and hardworking farmers.
Almost every day, I interact with rice farmers here. And sometimes I ask myself, if I was given a microphone today and loudspeakers set up outside those offices where they love posting photos of ministers instead of addressing real issues, I would ask this:
•Why allow the importation of 500,000 metric tonnes of rice duty-free, while Mwea farmers already have stock lying idle?
•The same farmers who bought farm inputs that are highly taxed?
•Then turn around and give them empty promises?
Je huu ni ugwana kweli?
Farmers don’t need pity, they just need fairness!
