🌍 Major Milestone for the Green Hydrogen Innovations Centre (GHIC) ⚡

During the 4th Green Hydrogen Symposium, the Archdiocese of Nyeri officially signed the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract with PT MBR Indonesia, marking the commencement of the implementation phase of the Green Hydrogen Innovations Centre (GHIC) project.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the German Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Sebastian Groth, Cabinet Secretary Hon. James Opiyo Wandayi, Principal Secretary Alex Kamau Wachira, CBS, from the Ministry of Energy, alongside representatives from Starkmacher Impact and GIZ Kenya, reflecting the growing international support behind this transformative initiative.

The event also brought together members of the GHIC Board and representatives of the Archdiocese of Nyeri — Eng. Dr. Joseph Njoroge, Eng. David Mwaniki, Eng. Stephen Kavoi, Dr. Lilian Wanjiru, Mr. Charles Karuga, Ms. Sandra Banda, Ms. Consolata Kanogu, Fr. David Mutahi, and Fr. Boniface Mwangi — whose leadership and strategic guidance continue to shape the project’s implementation and long-term vision.

The GHIC project integrates renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and healthcare support through:

🔹 Renewable energy innovation
🔹 Medical oxygen generation
🔹 Climate-smart agricultural solutions

This milestone reinforces the Archdiocese’s commitment to building sustainable systems that support farmers, healthcare facilities, and communities while advancing Kenya’s green energy transition.

Powering Impact Through Partnership 🤝🌱
(Transformative Partnership in Renewable Energy)

We are proud to be part of the Archdiocese of Nyeri community as it advances sustainable solutions through the Seeds of Energy Solar Project at Consolata Hospital Mathari.

Following the successful commissioning of the Seeds of Energy Solar Project at Consolata Hospital Mathari, we take a moment to recognize the partners whose support made this initiative possible.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Starkmacher Impact / Archdiocese of Cologne and GIZ Kenya for their commitment to sustainable development, innovation, and climate action.

Through these partnerships, the Seeds of Energy Project has evolved from vision to implementation, delivering clean and reliable energy to institutional users while reducing operational costs and strengthening environmental sustainability.

The project comprises a 765.4 kWp solar PV system and a 783.36 kWh battery storage system, supporting 34 institutions. It is estimated to generate over 1,250 MWh of clean energy annually, resulting in approximately KES 28 million in annual savings and a reduction of over 500 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

This collaboration demonstrates the value of shared vision, trust, and coordinated action in advancing sustainable development.

Together, we continue planting seeds that will power communities for generations to come.

Nyeri Hill Farm kicks off a Green Hydrogen Innovations Centre to Transform Agriculture and Healthcare.
Powered by solar energy, the Centre will produce green hydrogen and convert it into two essential outputs simultaneously:
✅Green ammonia fertilizer for their 825-acre Arabica coffee estate
✅Medical-grade oxygen for Consolata Hospital Mathari

Projected impact:
→ 56.8 tonnes of fertilizer per year
→ 56.4 million litres of medical oxygen annually
→ 226 tonnes of CO₂ avoided every year

This ambitious initiative is being delivered through a partnership spanning Kenya, Indonesia, and Germany — Enapter GmbH, Soventix GmbH, Nium Ltd, PT MBR Global Indonesia, CapsHydrogen Energy, Starkmacher Impact GmbH, GET.invest Finance Catalyst, and the Project Development Programme under Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The project runs from March 2026 to October 2028, with a clear roadmap to scale beyond the farm to neighbouring agricultural communities and eventually regional fertilizer distribution across Kenya.
