Absolutely outraged that Vipingo Ridge allowed a big firework display at a function at their Beach Bar last night. It is utterly irresponsible and negligent (to put it mildly) of them to not even inform the residents. This is directly in front of a Marine Conservancy. Oceans Alive Kenya. Fireworks are extremely detrimental to marine life, as well, of course to birds, bats and other wild animals, of which there are plenty in this fauna rich area. The effect on pets and people with PTSD is well known so I do not understand how people could be so ignorant and selfish. At least one residents dog has gone missing.

Had the most awesome birthday lunch at Asian Kitchen which is now based on the cliffs on the Kilifi plantation. The little huts are perched over the most dramatic piece of coastline and conversation is interrupted by constant shouts of “THERE, THERE!” as enormous turtles are spotted surfing the waves just below. The food and setting is to die for and the price is incredibly reasonable. Take wonderful friends for the optimum experience!
Onwards for sundowners on Kilifi Creek aboard my Neighbours new lux dhow The Coconut Pearl. Captain Abdul and his team were outstanding - friendly and attentive whilst serving us delish cocktails and bitings. A long stop at Bird Island to watch the Carmine Beeeaters come in to roost before ambling back to the boatyard as the magnificent full moon rose. I’ve always loved Killfi sunset cruises but this is taking it to a whole new level. And again at a very reasonable price. See the brochure at the end.

A big day for us as we lay out and square off the design plan for the new cottage at Neem Tree. This is to be our home in the future but we will ensure it does not interfere with the privacy or enjoyment of our guests. In the meantime, we will shut down any building works when we get bookings and it will all be tidy and fenced off. The contractor is my ex long term driver, Fundi and all round wonderful man, Boniface.
