Brandon Sakbun (Brandon Sakbun), (born March 4, 1996) is a Cambodian American politician, Army veteran, and the 43rd Mayor of Terre Haute, Indiana — the youngest mayor in the city’s history. The son of Dr. Vannara Sakbun, he grew up in Terre Haute and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business and a Master’s degree in Public Affairs from IU’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, completing the latter just 30 days before taking office in January 2024.
A former U.S. Army Captain, Sakbun served five years in the military after being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through ROTC, including service on strike teams with the elite 75th Ranger Regiment, before transitioning to the Indiana National Guard.
Sworn in at age 27, Mayor Sakbun has prioritized housing, infrastructure, and public safety. In his first year alone, his administration facilitated 379 new housing units, demolished 90 blighted structures, secured a record $15 million Community Crossings grant for road improvements, and launched fare-free public transit that boosted ridership by 52.5%. Known for his bipartisan, pragmatic leadership style, he continues to steer Terre Haute toward a bold and prosperous future.
