The original Angkor Brewery was commissioned by the Cambodian
Government in the early 1960s using the finest French technology of the time. The port city Sihanoukville was selected because this is where you can find the best possible water source in the country. The brewery was officially opened by HRH Prince Sihanouk in 1965, however after several years of successful operations it came to a standstill when civil war broke out. Cambrew Ltd., assumed control of the brewery in 1991 and after 9 months of refurbishment began production in 1992. During the 1990's a water treatment plant to safeguard the environment, a new brew house and automated packing lines were installed. The business further expanded by bottling and distributing products for PepsiCo. Carlsberg, one of the largest brewing groups in the world, became joint venture partner in year 2006. Since then, significant ongoing investments in brewing equipment and capacity have ensured that Angkor brewery remains the largest in Cambodia and one of the most modern in the region, featuring state-of-the-art brewing equipment, canning and kegging lines. Aside from brewing the Kingdom’s most popular and most loved beer – Angkor Premium Beer, Cambrew also brews a variety of original Cambodia lager beers and stouts which includes Angkor Extra Stout, Bayon, Klang and Black Panther. All of Cambrew’s beer are brewed by international brew masters using the finest ingredient sourced internationally. Strict quality control system is in place to ensure that all beer produced consistently remain of the highest quality. The quality of Cambrew’s beer and stout is consistently being recognized and acclaimed internationally. After receiving the Gold Quality Award in 2009, in 2011 Angkor Extra Stout became the only Cambodian Beer to have ever received a Grand Gold Quality Award, the highest possible honor from the prestigious Monde Selection of Belgium.
