Stepping onto the international stage at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London is a brutal test for a new spirit. Judged completely blind, without labels or marketing context, Lao Vodka scored an impressive 89 out of 100 points, missing Silver by just a single point. 🤏

For our small production team in Vientiane, this benchmark proves that premium vodka doesn't have to be neutral; it can be complex, textured, and uniquely Lao. The official blind-tasting panel in London explicitly recognized that depth of character, noting:

When the blind-tasting panel at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London evaluated Lao Gin, they weren't just judging a spirit; they were experiencing the spirit of Laos. We are thrilled the aromas and flavours we worked so hard to balance came across so predominantly in their official tasting notes:

📝 “A vibrant nose of lemongrass and toasted wheat mingled with bright citrus and fresh basil. The palate is silky and creamy, with zingy, zesty notes dancing alongside classic gin flavours. The long, smooth finish has lingering citrus and gentle creaminess.”

We are immensely proud to announce that Lao Gin has been awarded a Gold Outstanding Medal with an incredible score of 98 out of 100 points at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) in London—globally recognized as the "Oscars of the drinks industry". 🍸🥇

According to official IWSC scoring, this elite tier denotes “a truly superior spirit that stands out amongst its peers as a supreme example of its kind.” It is a description that our team must have read a hundred times since we received the news. We are still waiting for it to fully sink in.

To make this achievement even sweeter, Lao Vodka, brought home a Bronze Medal with 89 Points, missing Silver by just a single point on its very first international outing.

We are a small but dedicated team, and this award means a huge amount to us. It also belongs to everyone who supported us along the way—our shareholders, suppliers, distributors, cheerleaders, and customers. Thank you to everyone who believed we could produce world-class luxury products right here in Laos.

When we launched The Lao Distilling Company, the mission wasn't just to create high-quality local spirits. It was to showcase the rich diversity of Lao culture while proving that native Lao spirits could mix with, and be mixed by, the best in the world.

This past weekend in Luang Prabang felt like another big step towards that goal.

To celebrate our friends at Little Lao Culture Bar turning two, we handed Lao Gin and Lao Vodka over to Kai Ng from Quinary Hong Kong—a institution consistently ranked among Asia’s and The World’s 50 Best Bars.

Watching him apply Quinary's modern mixology techniques to our brands was a moment of some pride, and validation for every hurdle we’ve banged our shins attempting to clear over the past three years.
A massive thank you to Kai, the incredible team at Little Lao, and everyone who packed the room to experience the shift.
