Strengthening Food Safety and Regulatory Collaboration
Breaking barriers, strengthening Food Safety and Regulatory Frameworks, the Arab Beverage Association hosted a regional workshop in Amman - Jordan on 2 and 3 September 2025, bringing together key regulatory stakeholders from Iraq, Jordan, Oman, Saudi Arabia , Egypt and Lebanon.
The workshop gathered experts from regional and international organizations โ including FAO, JECFA, Codex Alimentarius Commission, Jordan FDA, Saudi FDA, Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control COSQC, Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) , regional Coordinator for the Codex Coordination Committee for Near East and academia , National Food Safety (NFSA) , LIBNOR โ to share best practices, exchange experiences, and strengthen science based regulation in the beverage sector.
Day 1 covered:

Integrating Codex Alimentarius food safety principles and risk assessment in regulation development.

Insights from FAO on JECFA food control systems and risk assessment procedures.

The importance of distinguishing risk vs. hazard and ensuring data quality (academia).
โ
Strengthening Near East food safety systems through Codex integration (Vice Chairpersons of the Codex Alimentarius Commission& regional Coordinator for the Codex Coordination Committee for Near East).

Risk assessment procedures for import/export controls in Iraq (COSQC) (JFDA) (LIBNOR)
Day 2 offered a deep dive into:
โป Regulatory frameworks on recycled plastics and food contact materials, including a review of related standards (NFSA& JFDA).
This collaborative effort reinforces our commitment to protecting consumers, safeguarding essential ingredients, and enabling innovation through strong partnerships between regulators and industry leaders in the Near East region.
